Adversity Strikes When Beacons Come to Evergreen

OLYMPIA, Wash. - In a hard-fought home game on Saturday, February 3, the Evergreen State College Women's Basketball team faced a determined Bushnell University, ultimately falling short with a final score of 47 - 55. The Geoducks showcased resilience and tenacity throughout the game, despite the challenging outcome.

The first quarter set the tone for a competitive matchup, with Bushnell University securing a slight lead by scoring 15 points, while The Evergreen State College posted 11. The closely contested nature of the game kept fans engaged as both teams battled for control on the scoreboard. The second quarter saw the Beacons extend their lead, scoring 14 points to the Geoducks' 7. The defensive efforts of both teams were evident as they sought to limit scoring opportunities, creating a challenging environment on the court. Entering the third quarter, Bushnell University maintained their lead by scoring 14 points, while Evergreen added 10. The Geoducks continued to demonstrate determination, looking to narrow the gap and turn the tide in their favor. In the fourth and final quarter, the Geoducks mounted a strong offensive effort, scoring 19 points. However, the Beacons held their ground, securing the victory with 12 points in the final quarter.

Despite the loss, the Geoducks gave their all on the court, exemplifying grit and determination. Sydney Vanness, in particular, delivered an exceptional performance in the face of adversity. Vanness scored 12 points during her 35 minutes on the court, making 5 out of 19 attempted field goals, and sinking 2 out of 10 attempted three-point shots.

The individual efforts of players like Vanness highlighted the Geoducks' commitment to fighting until the final whistle. Under the guidance of Head Coach Jackie Robinson, the team will use this experience as motivation for future contests, building on their strengths and addressing areas for improvement. Fans and supporters can expect the Evergreen Women's Basketball team to continue their hard work and competitive spirit as they navigate the remainder of the season. The Geoducks remain focused on growth and success, and the campus community eagerly anticipates their continued efforts on the court.
