Packer Achieves 10 Digs in Loss at Oregon Tech

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- Molly Packer (Jr., L) provided The Evergreen State College with 10 digs, but the Geoducks were defeated by Oregon Tech 3-0 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball match on Friday, Sept. 27. Packer has earned 10 or more digs in all 12 matches this year and has registered 221 digs for the season.

Oregon Tech won 25-17, 25-12, 25-17 to improve to 9-7 overall, 2-6 in the CCC. The Geoducks fell to 3-9, including 3-5 in the CCC.

Aleksen Thayer led the Lady Owls with 10 kills and Savanna Sterck tacked on eight kills. Kaley Whalen and Molly Grace each provided 12 digs. Lucy Boyd finished the match with 33 assists.

For Evergreen, Ashley Walker Campbell (Jr., OPP) was credited with seven kills, while Marin Collins (Jr., MB) totaled six kills. Jessica Mitchell (Jr., S) contributed 14 assists. Packer's 10 digs led the Geoducks on defense. 

In the first set, Evergreen led 3-2 after a service ace by Packer and the Geoducks held a 13-12 lead following a kil by Yasmin Dilworth (Sr., OH). The Lady Owls responded with a 6-0 run to grab an 18-13 advantage. Thayer completed the run with a kill. Evergreen scored next, but Oregon Tech completed the set with a 7-3 surge for a 25-17 win.

OIT held a slim 7-4 lead after 11 rallies in the second set. The Lady Owls tacked on a 5-0 run that ended with three consecutive kills by Thayer to increase the margin to 12-4. Three points later, a kill by Walker Campbell pulled Evergreen within 13-6, but Oregon Tech gradually pulled away.

The Geoducks trailed by a minimal 14-12 margin in the third set after a kill from Walker Campbell. Oregon Tech also led by just two points at 15-13 following a kill by Kaiyah Brown (Sr., MB). The teams split the next two points, and then OIT went on a 4-1 run for a 20-15 advantage. The Lady Owls won the set, 25-17.

Evergreen will play at Southern Oregon University on Saturday, Sept. 28. The CCC match in Ashland, Oregon, is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. PDT.
