OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Eastern Oregon University surged out to a 22-5 lead as the Mountaineers defeated The Evergreen State College in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball game 90-48 on Friday, Jan. 10 at the Costantino Recreation Center.
Jourdan Joseph (Sr., G) scored 19 points for the Geoducks and was 3 for 6 on 3-point shots.
After building their early lead, the Mountaineers remained in front by 17 to 24 points for much of the game before pulling away in the final 10 minutes. EOU upped its record to 10-4 overall, 5-3 in the CCC. Evergreen moved to 1-10 on the season, 1-7 in the CCC.
In addition to Joseph, the Geoducks also received double-digit scoring from
Bradley Graham (Jr., G), who produced 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting. He was 3 for 3 at the free throw line.
Jamoi Davis (Jr., W) led Evergreen with five rebounds, while
Garret Long (Jr., G/W) registered four boards and two steals.Â
TJ Doman and James Bodily each recorded 17 points for the Mountaineers. Doman was 5 of 7Â on field goals and hauled down 10 boards. He also earned three assists and two steals. Garrett Hawkes tacked on 13 points for EOU to go with seven rebounds and four assists. Brennan Newsom tallied 10 points.
EOU's early 22-5 run included scoring by seven players. Evergreen responded with a traditional three-point play by Graham to pull with 22-8 with 11:57 on the clock. The Geoducks reduced the margin to 24-11 on a 3-pointer by Joseph with 10:54 remaining in the half. Eastern Oregon was in front 45-20 at halftime.
In the second half, the Geoducks pulled within 21 points twice in the first seven minutes but were unable to put together a lengthy run. A bit later, the Mountaineers led 65-41 with 10:52 left. Eastern Oregon ended the game with a 35-7 run.
The Mountaineers shot 50.7% from the field (37 of 73) and hit 8 of 23 on 3-pointers (34.8%). Evergreen made 16 of 20 free throws (80.0%) but connected on 14 of 46 field goals (30.4%) and 4 of 18 three-point shots (22.2%). EOU achieved a 50-27 rebounding margin.
Evergreen will take on College of Idaho at the Costantino Recreation Center on Saturday, Jan. 11. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. PDT.
