Joseph Provides Geoducks with 15 Points against Warriors

SALEM, Ore. -- The Evergreen State College senior guard Jourdan Joseph topped the Geoducks with 15 points against Corban University in a men's basketball game on Friday, Jan. 17, but the Warriors won 97-65 at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. Joseph also contributed three assists, three steals, two rebounds and one blocked shot for Evergreen.

Corban improved to 10-7 overall, 8-3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Evergreen fell to 1-12 on the season, 1-9 in the CCC.

In addition to Joseph, other Geoducks with double-digit scoring against the Warriors were Bradley Graham (Jr., G) with 11 points and Garret Long (Jr., G/W) with 10 points. Graham was 4 for 5 on field goals while connecting on his only 3-point attempt. Nathan Behr (Jr., F/W) grabbed six rebounds for Evergreen. Solomon Campbell (Jr., F) added four rebounds.

Luc Krystkowiak paced the Warriors with 19 points and hit all nine of his shots from the field. Devean Hinton followed with 16 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Hinton was 8 for 10 on field goals. Payton Meyers scored 14 points for Corban, while Drayton Caoile earned 13 points. Jared Franklin hauled down six rebounds and Ben Krsytkowiak registered seven assists.

The Warriors shot exceptionally well in the first half while playing strong defense. Corban converted 61.1% of its field goals (22 fo 36) in the first 20 minutes and held Evergreen to 26.9% from the field in the first half (7 of 26). Corban held a 56-18 lead at halftime.

Evergreen rebounded in the second half, but couldn't overcome the halftime deficit. The Geoducks shot 69.2% from the field (18 of 26) over the final 20 minutes, while limiting the Warriors to 48.7% (19 of 39) in the second half. For the game, Evergreen finished at 48.1% (25 of 52) and Corban shot 54.7% (41 of 75).

Corban surged out to a 22-6 lead with 13:01 left in the first half. The early run by the Warriors included 13 points by Luc Krystkowiak. Evergreen responded with a 7-0 run featuring both a jumper and a 3-pointer by Zach Jefferson (Jr., G) and a layup by Graham to cut the margin to 22-13 at the 10:46 mark. Corban pulled away over the remainder of the first half.

The solid offensive performance by the Geoducks in the second half allowed Evergreen to outscore the Warriors 47-41. Joseph led the way with 11 points, while Graham tallied nine points and Long chipped in seven points. 

Evergreen will take on Bushnell University on Saturday, Jan. 18. Tipoff in Eugene, Oregon, is slated for 5 p.m. PST.
