Joseph's 29 Points Lead Geoducks, but Bushnell Wins Battle

EUGENE, Ore. -- Jourdan Joseph (Sr., G) from The Evergreen State College scored a career-high 29 points, but Bushnell University held off the Geoducks 100-92 in Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball action on Saturday, Jan. 18. The GeoducksĀ trailed 94-90 with 2:50 left before the Beacons ended the game with a 6-2 run.

Joseph's previous career high was 24 points, recorded once during 2022-23 and twice earlier this season. Against the Beacons on Saturday, Joseph was 9 of 15 from the field while hitting 4 of 8 three-points shots. He was 7 for 7 at the free throw line, and provided Evergreen with four rebounds and four assists.

Garret Long (Jr., G/W) added 16 points for the Geoducks as he connected on 5 of 7 field goals (4 for 5 on 3's). Bradley Graham (Jr., G) produced 14 points and was 6 of 9 on field goals (2 of 4 on 3's). Long and Graham each supplied TESC with three assists. Solomon Campbell (Jr, F) was credited withĀ eight points and five boards.

Evergreen shot 60.7% from the field (34 of 56) and made 10 of 20 three-pointers. The Geoducks went 14 for 15 on free throws (93.3%). Bushnell made 38 of 69 field goals (55.1%) while converting 11 of 23 shots (47.8%) from 3-point range. The Beacons made 13 of 17 free throws (76.5%) and held a 31-26 rebounding edge.Ā 

Cory Johnson was the leading scorer for the Beacons with 23 points, including four 3-pointers. Kaleb Burnett registered 18 points, while Ashton Harvey contributed 15 points and a team-high seven boards. Luke Smith earned 10 points.

Bushnell led 14-8 on a 3-pointer by Burnett with 16:08 left in the first half, but Evergreen soon cut the margin to 15-14 on a 3-pointer by Long at the 14:40 mark. Four minutes later, the teams wereĀ tied at 24-24. Bushnell owned a slim 29-28 lead with 8:56 on the clock, and then the Beacons went on a 13-0 surge to take a 42-28 lead with 6:21 to play in the half.

Evergreen reduced the margin to 48-41 when Jerry Boston Jr. (Sr., G/W) scored on a layup with 2:27 left. Bushnell was in front 55-43 at the break.

The Beacons held the lead throughout the second half, but the GeoducksĀ kept battling and the game was close in the final minutes. Early in the half, EvergreenĀ moved within 60-53 on a 3-pointer by Long. Later, the Geoducks trailed by a 69-63 margin after Joseph put through a layup wth 12:47 remaining. The teams exchanged points for several minutes, until Evergreen pulled within 82-78 with 7:18 left following a layup by Graham.

Evergreen cut the margin to four points three more times, including 94-90 on a 3-point basket by Joseph with just under three minutes to go. Layups by Johnson and Harvey increased Bushnell's lead to 98-90 at the 1:32 mark. Graham made a jump shot for the Geoducks with 1:05 left, but Burnett sank two free throws for the Beacons with 51 seconds remaining for the game's final points.

Bushnell improved to 9-9 overall, 5-7 in the CCC. Evergreen moved to 1-13 overall, 1-10 in the CCC.

Up next for the Geoducks is a game at Lewis-Clark State College on Friday, Jan. 24. Tipoff in Lewiston, Idaho, is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. PST.
