OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The Evergreen State College men's basketball team concluded the Winter Break with games at Southern Oregon University on Friday, Jan. 3 and at Oregon Tech on Saturday, Jan. 4. On Friday, the Geoducks lost to Southern Oregon 99-56. On Saturday, Evergreen fell to Oregon Tech 103-58.
Evergreen ended the weekend with a 1-09 overall record and a 1-6 mark in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. SOU improved to 7-5, 2-4 in the CCC after defeating the Geoducks. Oregon Tech moved to 10-3 on the season, 6-1 in the CCC.
Jerry Boston Jr. (Sr., G/W) led the Geoducks in scoring against both teams, as he reached double figures in each game. Against the Raiders of SOU, Boston Jr. finished with 15 points and was 5 for 6 on field goals, including 2 for 2 from 3-point range. He also earned grabbed three rebounds. In the game at OIT, he provided Evergreen with 17 points, while connecting on 5 of 10 field goal attempts. He made 2 of 3 three-points shots versus the Owls, while contributing four rebounds, a blocked shot, and a steal.
In the game at Southern Oregon,
Nathan Behr (Jr., F/W) also reached double figures, as he supplied the Geoducks with 11 points.
Bradley Graham (Jr., G) added eight points and three assists against the Raiders, while
Nick Gutierrez (Sr., G) scored seven points.
Kohrey Bridges (Jr., F) hauled down six rebounds.
Emmett Fenz topped SOU with 15 points and was 5 for 8 from the field, all on 3-point shots. Elijah Jackson achieved 14 points and was 4 for 5 on 3-point attempts, while Bryce Byer accumulated 13 points and 11 rebounds. Etan Collins grabbed 10 boards.
At Oregon Tech, Boston Jr. was joined in double figures by
Garret Long (Jr., G/W) and
Zach Jefferson (Jr., G). Long tallied 13 points and led the Geoducks with six rebounds and four assists. Jefferson added 10 points while hitting 4 of 8 field goals, including a pair of 3-point baskets.Â
The Owls were paced by Blake Jensen with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Keegan Shivers scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. Jamison Guerra provided nine assists. The Owls shot 58.5% for the game (38 of 65), including 47.1% on 3-pointers (10 of 24).
Evergreen led 3-2 against Southern Oregon after Boston Jr. hit a 3-point shot. The game was tied at 5-5 after a jumper by Gutierrez with 17:31 on the clock. The Raiders answered with an 11-0 run for a 16-5 lead at the 14:23 mark. Evergreen trailed 42-28 at halftime. SOU pulled away in the second half.
Long scored Evergreen's first four points against the Owls on Saturday, leaving the Geoducks with a 4-2 lead after he made two free throws with 17:49 left in the half. OIT took an 8-6 advantage on a layup by Jensen and eventually increased the lead to double digits at 20-9 following a layup by Shivers with 11:32 remaining before halftime.
The Owls owned a 22-10 lead after Shivers scored on a tip-in about a minute later. OIT closed the half with a 30-18 run to take a 52-28 lead into the halftime break.
Evergreen returns home to take on Eastern Oregon University and the College of Idaho this weekend. The Geoducks will host EOU at 7:30 p.m. PDT on Friday, Jan. 10 before battling the Yotes on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 5 p.m.
