Yotes Build First-Half Lead in Win over Geoducks

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- College of Idaho, ranked #7 in the NAIA Women's Soccer Poll, built a 3-0 lead over The Evergreen State College in the first half on Friday, Oct. 31, as the Yotes defeated the Geoducks 4-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action at Geoduck Pitch. Each team scored one goal in the second half, with Eden Makaafi scoring for the Yotes and Madeline Dorendorf (Jr., F) scoring for Evergreen.

The Yotes improved to 13-2-0 overall, 10-1-0 in the CCC. Evergreen fell to 1-12-1 on the season, 1-9-1 in the CCC. College of Idaho outshot the Geoducks 27-2, including 15-1 in shots on goal.

Natasja Davis scored first for the Yotes at 6:09 on a one-yard shot following an assist from Gianna Yslava. C of I remained in front 1-0 for just over 30 minutes before Campbell Reed doubled the lead for the Yotes with a goal at 37:33. Alondra Osuna began the play with a shot that was saved by Evergreen goalkeeper Katie Gresham (Jr.). The ball rebounded to Reed, who scored from five yards out. 

The Yotes increased their advantage to 3-0 on an unassisted goal by Madison Little at the 40:06 mark. Little scored on a shot from 18 yards. College of Idaho held a 16-0 edge in shots at halftime.

Early in the second half, C of I added its fourth goal after a foul was called on Evergreen in the Geoducks' defensive 18-yard box at 46:33. Makaafi took the ensuing penalty kick and sent the ball into the left corner of the goal. 

Dorendorf put Evergreen on the scoreboard at 56:267 with a shot from 18 yards to the lower left portion of the net. The goal was scored on a counterattack. Dorendorf was assisted on the play by Angela Celedon (Sr., M), who provided the through-pass that led to the goal.

Gresham finished with 10 saves for the Geoducks. A defender contributed one additional save for Evergreen. Alivia Brenchley earned the win in goal for C of I after playing 60:52. Alexis Navidad played the final 29:08 in goal for the Yotes. Neither C of I goalkeeper registered a save.

The Geoducks will host Eastern Oregon University on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 12:30 p.m. in Lacey, Washington. The game has been moved from the Evergreen campus due to field conditions. Evergreen and EOU will battle at the Regional Athletic Complex (RAC) at 8345 Steilacoom Road SE.
