LA GRANDE, Ore. -- Men's wrestlers Savion Galloway (So.) and Hassan Abdi (Jr.) from The Evergreen State College each reached the quarterfinals in their weight class at the Mountaineer Open, hosted by Eastern Oregon University on Sunday, Nov. 2. The tournament opened the regular season for the Geoducks.

Galloway received a bye in the first round of the 285-pound weight class. In the second round, he defeated unattached wrestler Mason Rodriguez with a fall at 5:39. In the quarterfinals, Anthony Nava from University of Providence (Mont.) registered a fall against Galloway at 5:26. 

After moving into the consolation fourth round, Galloway won by a fall just 1:45 into his match against Gavin Walters from the University of Idaho club team. Galloway lost to Yaden Martin from Eastern Oregon University in the fifth round of consolation play by a fall at 2:53.

Abdi also opened the day with a bye in the 157-pound weight class. He won his second round match with John Hayes of Clackamas Community College on a 17-9 major decision. In the quarterfinals, Kaden Mackenzie of Providence downed Galloway by fall at 2:04. Abdi completed the day in the fourth round of the consolation bracket with a narrow 8-7 loss to unattached wrestler Tristan Fay.

The Geoducks will compete at the Mike Clock Open in Forest Grove, Oregon on Sunday, Nov. 9. The tournament will start at 9 a.m. PST in the Stoller Center on the Pacific University campus.
