LACEY, Wash. -- The Evergreen State College lost at Saint Martin's University 93-42 in a women's basketball exhibition game for the Geoducks on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at Marcus Pavilion.
Jenna Glenzel (Sr., G) led the Evergreen with 15 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Kiana Ross topped Saint Martin's with 25 points, while Jada Travis added 20 points for the Saints.
Evergreen remained 0-1 on the season. Saint Martin's improved to 4-3 overall.
Glenzel's 15 points featured one 3-point basket and a 6-for-6 performance at the free throw line. By earning four steals, Glenzel matched Travis of SMU for game-high honors.
Also reaching double figures for Evergreen was
Amaya Afatasi (Jr., PG), who scored 10 points. She was 3 of 6 from the field and 4 of 4 on free throws.
Bayleigh Harder (Sr., F/C) tacked on nine points for the Geoducks to go with three rebounds and two assists.Â
Ross was 9 of 11 on field goals for the Saints and connected on 6 of 7 three-point shots. She also earned five rebounds. Travis was 7 of 13 from the field, made two 3-pointers, and went 4 for 4 at the line. Avery Oaster produced 14 points, while Laiken Hill achieved 10 points.
Harper Wagner led SMU with nine rebounds. Oaster finished with eight rebounds, and Travis claimed seven boards. Karyss Lacanlale topped the Saints with seven assists, while Travis supplied six assists.
Saint Martin's scored the first 10 points of the game, starting with Hill contributing a 3-pointer and a layup. Travis added a layup before a traditional three-point play by Kiana Rios completed the run with 7:26 on the clock. Glenzel tallied Evergreen's first points on a steal and fastbreak layup 22 seconds later. The Saints led 30-8 at the end of the first quarter after shooting 57.1% (12 of 21), including 5 of 12 on 3-pointers.
The lead increased to 56-16 for the Saints at halftime. SMU hit nine 3-point baskets during the first half. The Saints outscored the Geoducks 19-9 in the third quarter and gained a slim 18-17 scoring edge over Evergreen in the fourth quarter.
For the game, Saint Martin's was 35 of 72 (48.6%) on field goals, including 12 for 31 on 3-point attempts (38.7%). Evergreen shot 30.4% overall (14 of 46) and connected on four 3-pointers. The Geoducks were 10 for 12 (83.3%) at the free throw line.
