Evergreen Falls to Seattle University in Exhibition Game

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Evergreen State College was defeated by Seattle University in a women's basketball exhibition game for the Geoducks 102-37 on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Redhawk Center. The game counted for the Redhawks, who improved to 4-5 on the season. Evergreen remained 0-1.

Seattle U competes in NCAA Division I and the West Coast Conference. The Geoducks are members of the NAIA and the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Evergreen competed with just six players due to injuries.

The teams were tied 3-3 after Amaialyne Cepeda (Sr. G) hit a 3-point basket with 9:31 left in the first quarter. Seattle U answered with a 5-0 run for an 8-3 advantage at the 8:04 mark. Evergreen pulled within 10-8 on a 3-pointer by Jenna Glenzel (Sr., G) and were as close as 12-10 following a jumper by McKenna Jacobs (Fr., C) with 4:34 on the clock. The Redhawks ended the quarter with a 14-2 run to claim a 20-12 lead.

At the start of the second quarter, Seattle University pulled away by tallying the first 18 points, as the Redhawks upped their advantage to 42-12. The Redhawks outscored Evergreen 28-7 during the second period and held a 52-19 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Seattle U gained a 25-5 scoring edge. The fourth quarter went to the Redhawks by a 25-13 score.

Glenzel topped Evergreen with 14 points and was 3 for 5 on 3-point shots. Glenzel also led the Geoducks with eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Amaya Afatasi (Jr., PG) contributed nine points for the Geoducks to go with four rebounds and three assists. Jacobs finished with six points. Jesselle Victo Castillo (Jr., PG) added four rebounds. Habiba Adam (Fr., G) also registered four boards for Evergreen.

Lucija Milkovic led Seattle University with 18 points while connecting on 9 of 14 field goals. Ella Brubaker and Fia Proctor each tallied 14 points, while Chloe Emanga scored 12 points. Lucy Larson grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, and Milkovic hauled down 11 boards. Larson provided six assists, with Jana Vesic earning five assists.

Seattle U shot 56.8% from the field (42 of 74), including 11 of 20 on 3-pointers (55.0%). The Geoducks were limited to 23.1% shooting (14 of 61). Evergreen was 5 for 26 (19.2%) from behind the 3-point line.

Evergreen will open Cascade Collegiate Conference play on Friday, Dec. 5 at Oregon Tech. Game time in Klamath Falls, Oregon, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. PST.
