Frohlich-Fair Scores 14 Points in Exhibition Loss to UAA

ANCHORAGE,  Alaska -- Tony Frohlich-Fair (Sr., W) scored 14 points for The Evergreen State College against the University of Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, Nov. 8, but the Seawolves won 80-48 in an exhibition game for the Geoducks at Alaska Airlines Center. The game counted for the Seawolves, who evened their record at 2-2. Evergreen remained 0-1.

The teams also played an exhibition game for the Geoducks on Friday, Nov. 7. Alaska Anchorage won that game 85-58. UAA competes in NCAA Division II and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). Evergreen is a member of the NAIA and the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

Frohlich-Fair topped Evergreen with 14 points in each game. In Saturday's contest, he connected on 6 of 12 field goals and made 1 of 3 three-point shots. He tied for the team lead with four rebounds. Bradley Graham (Sr., G) also grabbed four boards. Gabriel Wigginton (Jr., W) scored eight points for the Geoducks while earning two assists. Jayson Mathews (Jr., G) finished with seven points. and Zach Jefferson (Sr., G) tallied five points.

Akok Machar of UAA, who scored a game-high 16 points in Friday's game, provided the Seawolves with 19 points on Saturday. He was 6 of 9 on field goals, including 5 for 6 from 3-point range. He also grabbed six rebounds. Lyman Simmons tacked on 12 points and seven boards, while hitting 5 of 7 field goals. Cole Johnson contributed 11 points and five assists. John McFadden hauled down eight boards.

Alaska Anchorage held a 10-5 lead after Machar connected on a 3-point shot with 16:35 remaining in the half. Evergreen cut the margin to 10-8 just over a minute later on a 3-pointer by Wigginton. The Geoducks took an 11-10 lead when Nathan Behr (Sr., F) sank a 3-pointer and also led 13-12 on a fast-break layup by Mathews at the 11:13 mark.

The Seawolves countered with a 7-0 run for a 19-13 advantage with 8:52 on the clock. The Geoducks scored next on a 3-pointer from Jefferson, before UAA added six consecutive points for a 25-16 lead with 5:33 left in the first half. Jacob Laff (So., W) of Evergreen broke the run with a 3-point basket twenty seconds later. The Seawolves outscored the Geoducks 18-3 over the remainder of the half to take a 43-22 margin into the break.

Frohlich-Fair scored the first basket of the second half on a layup, but Machar answered with a 3-pointer at the 17:59 mark to give Alaska Anchorage a 46-24 lead. Machar's basket started a 6-0 run by the Seawolves, as the margin increased to 49-24. Frohlich-Fair added two baskets for Evergreen in a 4-2 offensive surge to cut the deficit to 51-28 with 14:28 left, but UAA tacked on an 8-0 run.

For the game, Alaska Anchorage shot 55.8% on field goals (29 of 52) while hitting 12 of 26 three-pointers (46.2%). The Seawolves were 10 of 14 (71.4%) at the free throw line. The Geoducks were 15 of 44 from the field (34.1%) and 6 of 18 on 3-point shots (33.3%). Evergreen made 12 of 18 free throws (66.7%). 

The Geoducks will play a regular season game against Benedictine University Mesa (Ariz.) at the Costantino Recreation Center on Thursday, Nov. 13. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. PST.
