MOSCOW, Idaho --
Tony Frohlich-Fair (Sr., W) scored 16 points for the Geoducks, all in the second half, but The Evergreen State College was defeated by the University of Idaho 109-55 in men's basketball on Sunday, Dec. 14 at ICCU Arena. Jackson Rasmussen topped the Vandals with 20 points.
The game was an exhibition match-up for Evergreen, which remained 0-4 on the season. The game counted for Idaho, which improved to 7-4 overall. Evergreen competes in the NAIA and the Cascade Collegiate Conference, while Idaho is a member of NCAA Division I and the Big Sky Conference.
Frohlich-Fair reached 16 points by hitting 6 of 9 field goals during the game, including a 2-for-2 effort from 3-point range. He went 2 of 4 at the free throw line.
Tyler No (Jr., G) tallied 12 points for the Geoducks while connecting on 4 of 8 field goals. He matched Frohlich-Fair with two 3-pointers. Frohlich-Fair,
Bradley Graham (Sr., G), and
Jemoi Davis (Sr., W) tied for the team lead with three rebounds.
Graham earned four assists, and No was credited with two steals. Frohlich-Fair, Davis, and
Jacob Laff (So., W) each blocked one shot.
The Vandals were led by Rasmussen's 20 points, as he made 7 of 9 field goals and put through two 3-point shots. Rasmussen also earned five rebounds and blocked a shot. Aidan Sevilla provided Idaho with 14 points and tied for the team lead with seven rebounds. Isaiah Brickner and Ewan Steele also grabbed seven boards.
Kolton Mitchell put in 13 points for Idaho and led the team with a trio of 3-point baskets. Nine Vandals each scored on at least one 3-point shot, as Idaho finished 17 for 36 (47.2%) from long range. Sevilla and Biko Johnson both accumulated five assists.
Idaho built a large lead by outscoring the Geoducks 56-17 in the first half. The Vandals tallied the first 15 points of the game before
Kenzel Massey (So., G) scored on a rebound and layup with 14:53 remaining. Idaho was in front 28-5 after Sevilla made a layup with 11:01 left. No scored next for Evergreen with a pair of free throws, but the Vandals gradually increased their lead over the remainder of the first half, although each team scored six points in the final three minutes.
In the second half, Idaho achieved a 53-38 scoring edge. Frohlich-Fair led all players with 16 points in the second half, while connecting on his last six shots of the game, including two 3-pointers. No earned seven points for Evergreen in the second half. Trevon Blassingame scored nine points for Idaho in the second half.
For the game, Evergreen was 20 of 55 on field goals (36.4%). The Geoducks made 8 of 24 three-point attempts (33.3%) and hit 7 of 13 free throws (453.8%). University of Idaho finished 39 of 72 from the field (54.2%). The Vandals were 14 for 16 (87.5%) on free throws.
The Geoducks will return to Cascade Collegiate Conference play on Friday, Dec. 1 against College of Idaho. Game time at the Costantino Recreation Center is set for 7:30 p.m. PST.
