OLYMPIA, Wash. --
Jenna Glenzel (Sr., G) from The Evergreen State College scored 19 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and earned six steals, but The College of Idaho downed the Geoducks 96-50 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball game on Friday, Dec. 19 at the Costantino Recreation Center. Glenzel tied for game-high scoring honors, matching Brooke Beresford of the Yotes, who also tallied 19 points.
With the win, C of I improved to 8-3, including 2-1 in the CCC. Evergreen fell to 0-6 overall, 0-3 in the CCC.
Glenzel was joined in double figures for the Geoducks by
Bayleigh Harder (Sr., F/C) with 13 points. Harder also grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots.
Shaunya Kahananui (Jr., F) scored six points. In addition to leading the Geoducks in scoring, rebounding, and steals, Glenzel also topped Evergreen with three assists.
Beresford was 8 for 13 from the field for the Yotes. She also grabbed five rebounds and provided two steals. Maiya Hardy finished with a double-double by scoring 12 points and hauling down 11 rebounds. Hardy also supplied C of I with eight assists. Mia Austin tallied 14 points for the Yotes. Kylie Waltermeyer recorded 12 points, while Lainee Houillon added 10 points, and six boards.Â
College of Idaho surged out to a 22-8 lead and held a 29-16 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Waltermeyer and Austin each scored five points for the Yotes in the opening quarter, while Glenzel contributed seven points for Evergreen.
The Yotes expanded their lead by outscoring the Geoducks 24-9 in the second quarter. C of I owned a 53-25 edge at halftime. At the break, Waltermeyer had 10 points to lead all scorers. In the second half, C of I continued to pull away.
For the game, the Yotes shot 46.8% from the field (37 of 79), while hitting 13 three-pointers on 30 long-range attempts (43.3%). C of I was 9 for 11 on free throws (81.8%). Evergreen connected on 19 of 52 field goals (36.5%), including 4 for 15 on 3-pointers (26.7%). The Geoducks made 8 of 14 free throws (57.1%).
The Geoducks will play at the CRC on Saturday, Dec. 20, when Evergreen will take on Eastern Oregon University. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. PST.
