Jourdan Joseph (Sr., G) and
Solomon Campbell (Jr., F) each scored in double digits for The Evergreen State College, but Northwest University downed the Geoducks 96-81 on Tuesday, Feb. 4. The Eagles built a 44-29 halftime lead and both teams scored 52 points in the second half.
NU advanced its record to 5-17, including 4-12 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Geoducks fell to 1-18 overall, 1-15 in the CCC.
Joseph tallied 18 points and was 6 of 14 from the field, including 2 of 4 on 3-point shots. He also recorded three rebounds and four assists. Campbell registered 13 points to go with six rebounds and two blocked shots. Campbell was 6 for 10 on field goals.
Nick Gutierrez (Sr., G) chipped in 12 points for the Geoducks. He connected on 4 of 6 shots during the game, while going 4 for 5 from behind the 3-point arc.
Bradley Graham (Jr., G) earned nine points and four assists, while Jamoi Davis (Jr., W) hauled down seven boards.
Manuel Zapater of Northwest led all players with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while hitting 10 of 14 field goal attempts. Nash Wobrock tacked on 18 points and nine boards for the Eagles. Wobrock also blocked two shots. Caleb Whalen scored 15 points and had five assists. Trent Williams supplied 14 points.Â
The Eagles led 14-7 following a layup by Wobrock with 13:47 left in the first half. Davis scored next for Evergreen before NU went on a 10-2 run. The run ended with a 3-pointer by Williams that gave the Eagles a 24-11 margin with 9:48 on the clock.
A bit later, Campbell pulled the Geoducks within 32-22 by hitting a layup with 4:49 to play. Evergreen got as close as 10 points two more times in the half, including 36-26 after a layup by Kohrey (Jr., F) with 2:55 remaining. Northwest scored eight of the final 11 points in the half.
The teams exchanged baskets early in the first few minutes of the second half, and a layup by Joseph reduced NU's advantage to 50-37 at the 16:35 mark. The Eagles countered with a 14-5 run that ended with a 3-pointer from Ethan Martin for a 64-42 lead with 13:26 remaining.
Evergreen battled back and eventually reduced the deficit to 80-70 with 4:54 to play following a basket by Graham. The Geoducks pulled within 88-79 on a 3-point shot by
Zach Jefferson (Jr., G) at the 2:36 mark. Evergreen moved even closer when a free throw by Campbell cut the margin to 88-81 with 1:47 to go.
Northwest scored the next eight points to close out the game. Wobrock put through a layup with 1:13 left and the final six points were scored at the free throw line in the final minute.
Evergreen sank 33 of 72 shots from the field (45.8%), while the Eagles made 35 of 76 shots (46.1%). From 3-point range, the Geoducks were 10 for 22 (45.5%) and Northwest was 6 for 19 (31.6%). The Eagles gained an edge at the free throw line, where they converted 20 of 23 attempts (87.0%). Evergreen was 5 for 11 (45.5%) at the free throw line.
The Geoducks are scheduled to play at Multnomah on Friday, Feb. 7 in Portland, Oregon. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m . PST.
