Burnett Places Seventh in Pan American Race Walk

ANAPOIMA, Colombia -- Katie Burnett, assistant cross country and track and field coach at The Evergreen State College, place seventh in the women's 35-kilometer race walk at the 2025 Pan American Race Walk Championships on Saturday, May 17 in Anapoima. Burnett represented the U.S. National Team.

Burnett completed the race in 3:08:35. In addition to earning seventh place in the Pan American race, she finished fourth among competitors from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean (NACAC). Burnett and two other U.S. athletes combined to placed second in the team standings. Maria Coffey was fifth overall in 3:06:23 and Stephanie Casey was 11th in 3:27:34.

"It's my first Pan Am event since 2019 and I equaled the seventh place performance I did there," Burnett noted. "It was challenging with the humidity and accommodations, but it was a wonderfully organized event, and we felt so welcomed by the people of Anapoima."

Burnett qualified for the Pan American Championships by winning the 2025 USATF 35-kilometer Race Walk Championship in January. She won the competition in 3:05:10. Burnett has won a total of five USATF National Championships at four different distances in race walking.

She is likely to have enough points as the U.S. Champion and in the World Rankings to qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in the 35-kilometer race walk. The World Championships will be held in Tokyo, Japan, in September.
