Burnett Finishes 32nd in 35K Race Walk at World Championships

TOKYO, JAPANKatie Burnett, assistant cross country and track and field coach at The Evergreen State College, placed 32nd in the women's 35-kilometer race walk at the 2025 World Athletics Championships on Saturday, Sept. 13 (Friday, Sept. 12 in Olympia, Washington). Burnett was one of three athletes competing for the USA in the event.

Burnett completed the race in 3:14:13 (3 hours, 14 minutes, 13 seconds). She was just 51 seconds out of 31st place. Fellow USA athlete Maria Michta-Coffey took 22nd place in 3:05:02 and USA athlete Miranda Melville placed 30th in 3:12:07.

The lineup for the race featured 47 athletes. One competitor did not start the race, and eight other athletes did not finish the race.

Maria Perez from Spain won the 35-kilometer race walk in 2:39:01. She was followed by Antonella Palmisano of Italy in 2:42:24, as Perez won by 4 minutes, 23 seconds. Paula Milena Torres of Ecuador was third at 2:42:44. Li Peng from China placed fourth in 2:43:29, while Katarzyna Zdzieblo of Poland was fifth in 2:44:37.
