Strong Second Half Sends Oregon Tech Past Geoducks 3-0

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- The Evergreen State College and Oregon Tech were tied 0-0 at halftime in their men's soccer game on Saturday, Sept. 20. The Owls pulled away with one goal each by three players in the second half for a 3-0 victory over the Geoducks. The Cascade Collegiate Conference game was played at the Oregon Tech Soccer Field.

Oregon Tech upped its record to 4-0-3 on the season, 2-0-0 in the CCC. The Geoducks fell to 0-5-0, including 0-2-0 in the CCC.

Defenses controlled the first half, as neither team put a shot past the goalkeepers. The highlight of the half was provided by Evergreen goalie Tom Cole (Jr.), who saved a penalty kick by OIT's Sylver Schweiger at 33:04. Cole also saved a shot by Patrick Chen from the run of play 30 seconds before halftime. Oregon Tech held a 7-2 advantage in total shots at the break, including 2-1 in shots on goal.

The game's first goal was scored by Reece Fletcher for the Owls at 51:34. The play included assists from Merrick Tambio and Moises Lopez Carillo. The score remained 1-0 for the next 19 minutes. At 70:34, Oregon Tech increased its lead to 2-0 when Ben Bradshaw tallied an unassisted goal. Dalton Rideout scored the third goal for OIT at 84:14 with assists from Carillo and Elias Castro.

For the game, Oregon Tech earned a 17-5 edge in total shots. The Owls held a 7-2 margin in shots on goal and claimed a 2-0 lead in corner kicks. 

Alejandro Gallegos (Sr., D) recorded two shots for Evergreen. Sage Scheuerell (Sr., F), Kolby Juarez (Jr., M), and Jonas Olvera Calderon (Sr., D) each took one shot for the Geoducks. Fletcher, Rideout, Chan, and Bridger Meyer each provided three shots for the Owls.

Cole finished the game with four saves. Harvey Bolland made two saves for Oregon Tech.

Up next for the Geoducks is a CCC game at Geoduck Pitch against Carroll College (Mont.) on Friday, Sept. 26. Game time is slated for 3 p.m. PDT.
