Geoducks Fall to Rocky Mountain in CCC Game

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- David Russell scored four goals for Rocky Mountain College and The Evergreen State College competed with 10 players for the final 67:40, as the Battlin' Bears defeated the Geoducks 7-1 in CascadeĀ Collegiate Conference action on Saturday, Sept. 27. Alejandro Gallegos scored Evergreen's goal. Russell earned two goals in each half for RMC.

The win at Geoduck Pitch advanced RMC's record to 2-1-3 on the season, 1-1-1 in the CCC. Evergreen moved to 0-7-0 overall, 0-4-0 in the CCC.

Russell registered his first goal at 5:16 on an 18-yard blast into the upper left corner following a through pass from Aaron Lawson. The Battlin' BearsĀ increased their advantage to 2-0 on Russell's second goal at 20:47 on a 12-yard shot.Ā  Evergreen dropped to 10 players when Marvin Sea (Jr., F) received a red card ejection at 22:20.Ā 

Neither team scored during the remainder of the half. The Battlin' Bears owned a 15-4 advantage in shots at the intermission.

Just under three minutes into the second half, Russell registered a hat trick (three goals) when he scored from 15 yards out. Raul Villar assisted on the play.Ā 

Gallegos produced Evergreen's goal at 54:45 to cut the margin to 3-1. He was fouled in RMC's defensive 18-yard box to set up his scoring opportunity. Gallegos sent the resulting penalty kick past RMC goalie Anton Wilms.

RMC tallied the next goal on an unassisted shot by Fynn Sweeting at 64:23.Ā Russell soon completed his four-goal effort at 65:33 on a header from 14 yards, giving the Battlin' Bears a 5-1 lead. Henry Chalkley provided an assist on the play. RMC's last two goals were earned by Luke Tooze and Lorenzo Klamler.

For Evergreen, goalkeeper Tom Cole (Jr.) registered six saves while playing the first half. Gabriel Wilhelm (So., GK) played in goal in the second half and made two saves. Wilms was credited with one save in 67:27 for RMC. Biruk Paulos-Negatu completed the game in goal for the Battlin' Bears.

RMC registered a 33-5 margin in total shots and a 17-2 lead in shots on goal. Russell accumulated 10 total shots.

The Geoducks will take on University of Providence (Mont.) on Saturday, Oct. 4 in Great Falls, Montana. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. MDT / 2:30 p.m. PDT.
