Glenzel and Harder Lead Geoducks in Loss to #13 LC State

LEWISTON, Idaho -- Jenna Glenzel (Sr., G) scored 21 points and Bayleigh Harder (Sr., F/C) added 16 points, but The Evergreen State College couldn't keep up the pace with #13-ranked (NAIA) Lewis-Clark State College in a 105-58 loss to the Warriors on Saturday, Jan. 17. Kendall Wallace led Lewis-Clark State with 19 points. 

The Cascade Collegiate Conference win advanced LC State to 14-4 on the season, including 8-2 in the CCC. Evergreen dropped to 0-13 overall, 0-10 in the CCC.

Glenzel was 7 of 13 from the field and 6 for 6 at the free throw line. The 21-point effort was Glenzel's 12th game with more than 10 points this season, including five games with 17 or more points. Harder's 16 points included a trio of 3-point baskets. Harder topped the Geoducks with nine rebounds, while Glenzel provided four rebounds and led the team with three steals. Amaya Afatasi (Jr., PG) scored eight points and contributed six assists.

While scoring 19 points for LC State, Wallace hit 7 of 11 field goals and made three 3-pointers. Payton Hymas tacked on 17 points for the Warriors while earning four assists and five steals. Lindsey Wilson produced 12 points and five boards, while Camden Barger earned 11 points and five assists. Darian Herring was credited with 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists, five steals, and three blocks. Sitara Byrd tied Herring for the team lead with eight boards.

Evergreen trailed 12-0 in the first four minutes of the game, but the Geoducks outscored the Warriors 12-9 over the remainder of the first quarter. Scoring in the first period featured nine points by Harder for Evergreen and nine points by Hamas for the Warriors. LC State took a 21-12 lead into the second quarter.

Lewis-Clark State outscored the Geoducks 30-15 in the second quarter to extend the lead to 51-27 at halftime. Evergreen scored the first two points of the quarter on a fastbreak layup by Glenzel, but the Warriors gradually pulled away. Hymas led all players at the break with 15 points, while Harder had 13 points for the Geoducks.

The Warriors gained a 26-11 scoring advantage in the third quarter and outscored the Geoducks 28-20 in the fourth quarter. Wallace tallied seven points in the third quarter and scored seven more in the fourth for LC State. Glenzel earned 10 points in the final quarter for Evergreen.

For the game, the Geoducks shot 39.6% from the field (21 of 53) and made 5 of 19 three-pointers (26.3%). The Geoducks were 11 of 14 on free throws (78.6%). Lewis-Clark State made 41 of 75 field goals (54.7%), while putting through 9 of 25 shots from 3-point range (36.0%). The Warriors sank 14 of 16 free throws (87.5%).

Evergreen will return to action on Friday, Jan. 23 when the Geoducks host Southern Oregon University. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Costantino Recreation Center.
