OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Bridgette McIntyre scored 22 points to lead four Southern Oregon University players in double figures, as the Raiders defeated The Evergreen State College 95-29 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball game on Friday, Jan. 23 at the Costantino Recreation Center. The Raiders shot 58.7% from the field (37 of 63).
Southern Oregon, which received votes in this week's NAIA Women's Basketball Top 25 Poll, improved to 13-6 on the season, including 8-3 in the CCC. The Geoducks fell to 0-14 overall, 0-11 in the CCC.
Evergreen was led by
Amaya Afatasi (Jr., PG) with nine points and was 4 for 7 on field goals.
Jenna Glenzel (Sr., G) tacked on six points to go with five rebounds and two steals, while
Habiba Adam (Fr., G) earned five points and three rebounds.
Haleigh Hanson (So., C) provided three rebounds.
Bayleigh Harder (Sr., F/C) blocked two shots.
McIntyre reached 22 points by hitting 8 of 12 field goals, including 4 of 8 shots from 3-point range. She also contributed four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Sage Winslow added 18 points and was 8 for 11 from the field. Winslow led all players with five rebounds and also achieved three assists. Eliza DiGiulio and Kyla Albee each scored 11 points. Keeley Wright registered four assists and four steals.
SOU led 7-2 after three minutes, but Evergreen cut the margin to 7-5 on a 3-pointer by Adam with 6:29 on the clock. The Raiders responded with a 12-0 run, including a 3-point basket by McIntyre to take a 19-5 lead with 3:35 to play. Evergreen trailed 19-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Glenzel put through a layup for the Geoducks to open the second quarter, but Southern Oregon followed up with a 16-0 run for a 35-9 advantage with 4:16 left in the half. Winslow tallied seven points during the offensive surge, including the first five points. The Raiders owned a 45-16 lead at the break and continued to pull away in the second half.
On their way to shooting 58.6% for the game, the Raiders connected on 10 of 23 three-point attempts (43.5%). SOU was 11 for 16 on free throws (68.8%) and held a 37-29 rebounding margin. Evergreen shot 24.4% from the field (11 of 45) and made 1 of 14 three-pointers. The Geoducks finished 6 of 11 (54.5%) at the free throw line.
Evergreen will remain at home to take on Oregon Tech on Saturday, Jan. 24. Tipoff at the CRC is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. PST.
