Evergreen Falls to #18-Ranked Corban in Women's Basketball

SALEM, Ore. -- With large scoring margins in the first quarter and third quarter, #18-ranked (NAIA) Corban University defeated The Evergreen State College 95-51 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 3. The Warriors outscored the Geoducks 28-9 in the first quarter and 25-9 in the third quarter. Corban held smaller margins of 18-14 in the second quarter and 25-19 in the fourth quarter. The win at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center improved the Warriors to 12-2 overall, 5-1 in the CCC.

Evergreen's Jenna Glenzel (Sr., G) tied a career high with 24 points by hitting 7 of 11 field goals and going 9 for 9 at the free throw line. Glenzel also earned seven steals to tie for sixth on the Evergreen single game list. In addition, Glenzel earned four rebounds and blocked one shot. The Geoducks moved to 0-9 on the season, 0-6 in the CCC.

Bayleigh Harder (Sr., F/C) tacked on 11 points for Evergreen and blocked seven shots. The seven blocks tied Harder for second on the Geoducks' single game list. She matched Jalyn Sackrider who blocked seven shots against Northwest University on Dec. 10, 2024. The school record was set by Sackrider with eight blocks against Bushnell University on Feb. 15, 2025.

Also for Evergreen on Saturday at Corban, Sahara Soufi (Jr., G) scored six points. Soufi also contributed two steals.

Jersey Huerta topped the Warriors with 21 points, while connecting on 7 of 11 field goals, including 2 of 3 shots from long range. She was 5 for 6 on free throws and registered seven assists to go with four rebounds and two steals. Jenna Albrecht supplied 16 points and went 6 for 7 from the field, while earning five rebounds and four assists. Emilia Bishop contributed 10 points, nine rebounds, four blocked shots, and two steals. Tayla Yost provided eight boards and two steals. Tori Younker matched Huerta with seven assists.

Corban recorded the first 13 points of the game, ending with a layup by Yost with 5:37 left in the opening quarter. Harder answered with layups for Evergreen at 5:20 and 4:49 to reduce the margin to 13-4. The Warriors closed out the quarter with a 15-5 run for a 28-9 advantage.

A 3-pointer by Glenzel with 2:38 left in the half pulled the Geoducks within 37-23. Yost sank two free throws 25 seconds later, starting a 9-0 run by Corban to end the half with a 46-23 lead.

The Warriors extended the margin with a 19-0 run to begin the third quarter on the strength of two 3-pointers by Huerta, and one 3-pointer each by Albrecht and Kylie Ihrig. Glenzel scored next for the Geoducks by hitting two free throws at the 3:16 mark and Harder added two more free throws with 2:32 left in the quarter. Glenzel scored 10 points during the fourth quarter.

Evergreen will play at Northwest University on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. PST in Kirkland, Washington.
