Frohlich-Fair Scores 37 Points in 104-96 OT Win at Corban

SALEM, Ore. -- Tony Frohlich-Fair (Sr., W) scored a career-high 37 points to lead four Geoducks in double figures, as The Evergreen State College outscored Corban University 104-96 in overtime, on Saturday, Jan. 3 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Tj Zimmerman topped Corban with 28 points.

The teams were tied 46-46 at halftime and 89-89 at the end of regulation. Evergreen outscored the Warriors 15-7 during the five-minute overtime period to move to 1-7 overall, 1-5 in the CCC. It was the first time the Geoducks scored 100 points or more in a CCC game since defeating Concordia University (Ore.) 107-97 on Jan. 15, 2010. Corban fell to 6-8 on the season, 2-4 in the CCC.

Frohlich-Fair's 37 points tied him for 10th on Evergreen's all-time single game list. He was 15 for 27 on field goals against the Warriors, including one 3-pointer. He went 6 for 8 at the free throw line and also contributed team highs with 12 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. He is averaging 22.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

Bradley Graham (Sr., G) recorded 18 points for the Geoducks while hitting 6 of 11 field goals. He was 5 for 5 at the free throw line, including four free throws in overtime. Graham supplied four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Gabriel Wigginton (Jr., W) and Jacob Laff (So., W) each added 12 points. Wigginton grabbed eight boards and earned two assists, while Laff went 4 of 6 on 3-pointers to go with three boards. Kohrey Bridges (Sr. F) had nine points and five rebounds.

Evergreen led by as many as 12 points at 63-51 with 14:57 left in the second half, following a 3-point basket by Bridges. Corban rallied to tied the score at 66-66 on a layup and free throw by Zimmerman with 10:55 left. A bit later, the Geoducks held a 70-68 lead following a layup by Zach Jefferson (Sr., G) at the 9:39 mark. The Warriors answered with an 11-0 run to move in front 79-70 lead when Oreon Courtney sank a free throw with 6:17 remaining.

Corban led 86-80 after Zimmerman scored on a layup with 2:46 to go. The Geoducks cut the margin to 86-85 on a jumper by Frohlich-Fair with 1:47 left, and moved within 88-87 on a layup by Bridges with 51 seconds on the clock. Evergreen claimed an 89-88 lead when Frohlich-Fair grabbed his own rebound and put in a layup with 14 seconds to play. Carter Knox of Corban made the first of two free throws with four seconds left to tie the score.

The overtime began with Frohlich-Fair scoring on a jumper and Zimmerman hitting a layup for Corban with 4:17 remaining. The Geoducks took a 94-91 lead when Frohlich-Fair added a 3-pointer just eight seconds later. Evergreen remained in front the rest of the game. Two free throws by Bridges and a jumper by Graham increased the margin to 98-91 at the 2:33 mark. Benett Bos put through a 3-pointer for the Warriors with 2:12 to go.

Graham hit two free throws with 51 seconds left to give the Geoducks a 100-94 edge. Wigginton tacked on two more points as he put in a soft dunk with 29 seconds on the clock. Zimmerman missed two free throws with 21 seconds to go. Graham finished the scoring with a pair of free throws with 16 seconds remaining.

Zimmerman scored 28 points on 13-of-17 shooting. He also provided Corban with six rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Bos concluded the game with 18 points, including six 3-pointers, to go with four assists, three blocks, and two steals. Courtney registered a triple-double as he scored 16 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and earned 10 assists, in addition to providing two steals. Joe Gould was credited with 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Early in the game, Corban led 15-10. Evergreen responded with a 7-0 run that ended with a 3-pointer by Graham for a 17-15 lead with 12:58 on the clock. Later, Zimmerman gave Corban a 25-23 advantage with a jumper at the 10:11 mark. Later, the Geoducks owned a 32-25 lead at the end of a 9-0 run. Corban countered with a 21-9 run for a 46-41 edge after Tayshwan Colvin hit a 3-pointer with 59 seconds left in the half. Evergreen tied the score with a 3-pointer by Laff and a jumper by Graham with four seconds to play.

The Geoducks shot 53.6% on field goals during the game (37 of 69) and converted 10 of 26 three-point tries (38.5%). Evergreen was 20 for 24 (83.3%) at the free throw line and earned a 41-37 rebounding margin. Corban made 39 fo 80 field goals (48.8%), including 10 of 34 three-pointers (29.4%). The Warriors connected on just 8 of 18 free throws (44.4%).

Evergreen will play at Northwest University on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Game time in Kirkland, Washington, is set for 7:30 p.m. PST.
