Frohlich-Fair Tallies 32 Points in 89-85 Loss to Corban

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Tony Frohlich-Fair (Sr., W) continued to light up the scoreboard with 32 points as The Evergreen State College took on Corban University in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball game on Friday, Jan. 30 at the Costantino Recreation Center, but the Warriors downed the Geoducks 89-85. Frohlich-Fair also grabbed 10 rebounds. He has scored 32 or more points five times this season, including four of the last five games. 

On Friday, Frohlich-Fair connected on 9 of 13 field goals, while hitting 2 of 3 from 3-point range. He sank 12 of 15 free throws. His 10 rebounds included nine defensive boards. Bradley Graham (Sr., G) tacked on 15 points for Evergreen, while earning five rebounds and five assists. Zach Jefferson (Sr., G) and Jacob Laff (So., W) each scored nine points for the Geoducks. Kohrey Bridges (Sr., F) provided seven rebounds. Jayson Mathews (Jr., G) supplied six assists. 

The Warriors were topped by Joe Gould and Tj Zimmerman, both with 18 points. Nikola Milosevic added 15 points, while Clyde Harris Jr. contributed 11 points and six boards. Anjay Cortez finished with eight points and six rebounds. Zimmerman and Oreon Courtney were each credited with three assists.

Corban advanced its record to 10-11 overall, 6-7 in the CCC. Evergreen moved to 3-12 on the season, 3-10 in the CCC. The teams split the season series, with Evergreen winning 104-96 in overtime on Jan. 3 in Salem, Oregon.

Evergreen trailed 48-36 halftime and faced a 55-38 deficit with 18:25 left in the second half following a jumper by Payton Meyers of Corban. The Geoducks eventually tied the score at 67-67 on a traditional 3-point play by Frohlich-Fair with 8:27 to go. Evergreen grabbed a 69-68 lead on a layup by Jefferson with 7:47 on the clock. 

Corban moved in front 72-71 with a layup from Zimmerman at the 6:13 mark. A bit later, the Warriors held an 80-75 advantage on a jumper by Milosevic with 3:25 remaining. The Geoducks tallied the next three points, ending with two free throws by Graham with 2:27 to play. Corban took an 83-78 lead with 1:45 left.

Evergreen trailed by just two points twice in the final minute at 85-83 on a layup by Graham and at 87-85 on two free throws by Frohlich-Fair with 13 seconds to go. Gould clinched the win for the Warriors by sinking two free throws with seven seconds to go.

Frohlich-Fair, who scored 25 of his 32 points in the second half on Friday, leads the CCC this season and is ranked fourth in the NAIA in scoring with 25.8 points per game. He has scored in double figures in all 15 games.

The Geoducks shot 41.5% from the field (27 of 65) as a team against Corban and hit 6 of 26 three-point attempts (23.1%). Evergreen was 25 of 33 (75.8%) at the free throw line. Corban connected on 55.8% of its shots (29 of 52) but made just 2 for 10 of its 3-point shots. The Warriors were 29 for 44 (65.9%) on free throws. The Geoducks finished with a 38-36 rebounding edge.

Evergreen will host Bushnell University at the CRC on Saturday, Jan. 31. Game time against the Beacons is set for 5 p.m. PST.
