OLYMPIA, Wash. — Lewis-Clark State College connected on 19 of 35 three-point shots as the Warriors defeated The Evergreen State College 104-56, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball game on Friday, Feb. 13. The Warriors, ranked #22 in the NAIA Men's Basketball Top 25 Poll, upped their record to 20-5 on the season, 14-3 in the CCC. Evergreen moved to 3-16 overall, 3-14 in the CCC.
Tony Frohlich-Fair (Sr., W) of Evergreen scored 21 points for his 13th consecutive game with at least 20 points for the Geoducks. Frohlich-Fair leads the CCC with 25.4 points per game and is ranked fourth in the NAIA in scoring average. On Friday, he was 6 of 13 from the field and made 8 of 9 free throws. He also provided three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Kohrey Bridges (Sr., F) provided 10 points for the Geoducks and led Evergreen with two 3-point baskets.
Bradley Graham (Sr., G) chipped in eight points and earned two steals.
Jacob Laff (So., W) hauled down a team-high six rebounds, while
Jayson Mathews (Jr., G) was credited with four assists.
John Lustig of Lewis-Clark State, who hit 10 of 11 field goals but did not attempt a three-pointer, led the Warriors with 22 points. He also tied for the team lead with eight rebounds and finished with four assists. Jamare Childs tacked on 14 points to go with six assists, while Dallon Morgan supplied 13 points and four boards. Grayson Hunt matched Lustig with eight rebounds. Brandon Suber registered seven assists.
Evergreen led 7-5 with 16:356 remaining in the first half following a 3-pointer by Bridges. A bit later, the Geoducks erased a two-point deficit with a 5-0 run for a 16-13 lead after Bridges added another 3-pointer with 12:12 to play in the half.
The Warriors claimed a 24-20 edge on a 3-pointer by Peyton Nordland as the clock reached 8:32. LC State owned a slim 28-25 margin after the Geoducks received a traditional three-point play from Frohlich-Fair with 5:22 left. The Warriors ended the half with a 21-5 run to take a 49-30 lead into the halftime break.
LC State continued to pull away in the second half. Morgan scored all 13 of his points for the Warriors in the final 20 minutes. The Warriors made 12 of 21 three-pointers (57.1%) in the second half and went 19 for 35 (54.3%) overall.
Three LC State players led the 3-point attack as each hit 4 of 7 shots from behind the arc during the game. They were Childs, Dylan Skaife, and Trevor Manning. Skaife and Manning both finished with 12 points.
Lewis-Clark State was 40 of 64 on total field goal attempts (621.5%). The Warriors connected on 5 of 6 free throws. Evergreen shot 37.5% from the field (18 of 48) and put through 3 of 13 three-pointers (23.1%). The Geoducks sank 17 of 19 free throws (89.5%), to improve to 78.2% for the season (2nd in the CCC).
Evergreen will take on Walla Walla University on Saturday, Feb. 14 at the CRC. Game time is set for 9 p.m. PST.
