Harder Leads Geoducks against #12 Lewis-Clark State

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Lewis-Clark State College, ranked #12 in the NAIA Women's Basketball Top 25 Poll, built a 19-9 lead in the first quarter on its way to an 80-40 win over The Evergreen State College on Friday, Feb. 13 at the Costantino Recreation Center. Sitara Byrd led Lewis-Clark State with 19 points, seven rebounds and six steals. For Evergreen, Bayleigh Harder (Sr., F/C) contributed 15 points and four boards. 

Harder connected on two 3-pointers for the Geoducks. She was followed on Evergreen's scoring chart by Jenna Glenzel (Sr., G), who earned nine points to go with five steals and four rebounds. Glenzel leads the CCC and is sixth in the nation in the NAIA with 4.2 steals per game. Habiba Adams (Fr., G) supplied a team-high seven rebounds, while earning five points and three steals.

Lewis-Clark State improved to 19-6 on the season, as the Warriors upped their Cascade Collegiate Conference record to 13-4. Evergreen dropped to 0-20 overall, 0-17 in the CCC.

Byrd was 7 of 10 on field goals and provided two 3-pointers on the way to 19 points for LC State. Kendall Wallace added 18 points and three steals. Darian Herring was credited with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Wallace and Herring each registered three steals. Camden Barger provided LC State with six assists.

The Warriors tallied the game's first 13 points, led by Wallace with five points and Byrd with four. Harder broke LC State's run by hitting a jumper for Evergreen to cut the margin to 13-2 with 6:49 left in the opening quarter. Later, Lewis-Clark State led 19-5 following a layup by Herring with 1:29 on the clock. Evergreen recorded the last four points of the quarter on two free throws by Glenzel and a layup from Adam.

Baskets by Byrd and Tatum Brager gave the Warriors a 23-9 edge early in the second quarter. The Geoducks reduced the margin to 25-15 at the 6:22 mark on a 3-pointer sent through the net by Harder. LC State countered with a 13-0 run for a 38-15 lead with 3:43 to go. The Warriors were in front 42-20 at halftime.

The third quarter was big for LC State, which outscored the Geoducks 26-4 during the 10-minute stretch. Herring scored 10 points during the period. In the fourth quarter, Evergreen earned 16 points and held the Warriors to 12 points.

Lewis-Clark State shot 50.0% for the game (28 of 56), while converting 10 of 21 three-pointers (47.6%). The Warriors sank 14 of 16 free throws (87.5%) and gained a 40-29r rebounding margin. Offensive rebounds were close, as LC State grabbed 11 and Evergreen achieved 10.

The Geoducks were 13 of 51 from the field (25.5%). Evergreen hit 4 of 17 long-range shots (23.5%). At the line, Evergreen was 10 for 12 (83.3%).

Evergreen will host Walla Walla University at the CRC on Saturday, Feb. 14. Game time is set for 7 p.m. PST.
