Evergreen Rallies, but Northwest Holds Off Geoducks

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Evergreen State College rallied from a 14-point deficit with 9:25 remaining in the second half to take the lead, but Northwest University battled back to defeat the Geoducks 82-74 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference game at the Costantino Recreation Center on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

It was Senior Night for Evergreen. Prior to the game, the Geoducks honored seniors Nathan Behr (F), Kohrey Bridges (F), Jemoi Davis (W), Tony Frohlich-Fair (W), Bradley Graham (G), and Zach Jefferson (G).

NU improved to 11-16 on the season, 8-11 in the CCC standings. Evergreen fell to 4-17 overall, 4-15 in the CCC.

The Eagles owned a 64-50 advantage after Ethan Martin hit a jumper for NU with 9:25 left. Evergreen countered with 14 consecutive points to tie the score on a 3-pointer by Kenzel Massey with 6:24 to play. Massey scored 10 points during the run by hitting two 3-pointers and 4 of 6 free throws.

Northwest University grabbed a 65-64 lead on a free throw by Lucius Fox with 5:53 on the clock, and the Geoducks moved in front 66-65 when Reilly McIlraith (Jr., G) sank two free throws at the 5:37 mark. A bit later, Evergreen was in front 69-66 following a 3-pointer by Massey with 4:15 on the clock.

NU moved in front for the final time at 72-71 with 2:41 remaining on a layup by Trent Williams. The Eagles led 76-71 after Fox scored on a layup for the Eagles with 1:01 left. Evergreen moved within 78-74 on a 3-pointer by Bradley Graham with 31 seconds to go. NU went 4 for 4 at the line in the final 26 seconds to secure the win.

Frohlich-Fair topped Evergreen with 16 points and seven boards. He has scored in double figures in every game this season. Frohlich-Fair leads the CCC in scoring and is fourth in the NAIA with 25.0 points per game.

Zach Jefferson takes a shot for the Evergreen Geoducks.Massey provided 13 points, while Graham scored 11 points. Massey and Graham each sank three 3-point shots and grabbed three rebounds. Tyler No (Jr., G) tallied eight points, while Jefferson earned seven points and one assist. Davis contributed four points, six boards, two steals, and a blocked shot.  

Andrew Iyamah led NU with 22 points, while Fox added 19 points and 10 rebounds. Iyamah was 9 for 12 on field goals and Fox went 7 for 14 from the field. Martin finished with 14 points for the Eagles, while Logan Stempniak scored 10 points to go with four assists. Cristian Wakins led all players with seven assists.

In the first half, Northwest University took a 12-4 lead following a basket by Iyamah with 15:42 left. Evergreen pulled within 14-9 just over a minute later on a 3-pointer by Bradley. The Geoducks eventually reduced the Eagles' lead to 21-20 after Jacob Laff (So., W) scored on a layup at the 9:57 mark. 

NU earned the next four points for a five-point lead. Evergreen cut the margin to 27-26 when Jefferson hit a 3-pointer with 7:45 on the clock. The Eagles answered with a 14-0 run that featured six points each by Iyamah and Fox, as NU grabbed a 41-26 advantage with 3:05 remaining in the half. The Eagles led 45-30 at halftime.

Evergreen connected on 24 of 60 field goals (40.0%) and made 9 of 28 three-point attempts (32.1%). The Geoducks were 17 for 24 on free throws (70.8%). NU shot 47.0% from the field (31 of 66), while making 6 of 25 three-pointers (24.0%). The Eagles finished 14 of 19 (73.7%) at the free throw line.

The Geoducks will conclude the 2025-26 season with a game at Warner Pacific University in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday, Feb. 19. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PST.
