Tony Frohlich-Fair of The Evergreen State College scored 29 points, but Eastern Oregon University defeated the Geoducks 105-80 on Friday, Feb. 6 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball game. Eamon Monahan was EOU's top scorer with 22 points.
Frohlich-Fair registered 20 or more points for the 11th consecutive game. He has scored in double figures in all 17 of Evergreen's games. He currently leads the CCC and is ranked fourth in the NAIA with 26.0 points per game this season.
On Friday, Frohlich-Fair hit 11 of 17 shots from the field and sank 7 of 8 free throws. He also supplied the Geoducks with five rebounds and one steal.
Bradley Graham (Sr., G) created nine points for Evergreen, while converting a trio of 3-point shots and providing one steal.
Zach Jefferson (Sr., G),
Nathan Behr (Sr., F), and Jeff Laff (So., W) each scored eight points. Jefferson also earned four assists. Laff made all three of his field goal attempts, including two from 3-point range, and also finished with four rebounds.
While scoring 22 points, Monahan was 9 for 11 on field goals for EOU, including 3 for 3 from behind the 3-point arc. Monahan had a strong all-around game with seven boards, four blocked shots, two assists, and two steals. Porter Abrams scored 14 points and led all players with 13 rebounds. James Bodily tacked on 18 points for the Mountaineers while producing three rebounds and three assists.
Also for Eastern Oregon, Cole Hammack added 15 points, four assists, and three rebounds. Logan Orchard accumulated nine points to go with five assists. Trent Rogers also scored nine points.
Eastern Oregon upped its record to 17-6 on the season, 12-3 in the CCC. Evergreen ended the game with a 3-14 overall record, including 3-12 in the CCC.
The Mountaineers surged out to a 9-2 lead and held a 16-5 advantage after Keilan Torkornoo sank 1 of 2 free throws with 15:02 remaining in the first half. Graham replied with a 3-point basket for Evergreen with 14:37 left to cut the margin to 16-8.Â
A bit later, EOU owned a 24-10 margin when Monahan scored on a field goal with 12:48 on the clock. The Geoducks went on a 7-2 run, ending with a basket by
Tyler No (Jr., G) to reduce the margin to 26-17 at the 10:22 mark.
Evergreen pulled as close as eight points several times during the half, including 37-29 following a basket by Frohlich-Fair with 6:15 left. The Geoducks were within 10 points at 44-34 after Jefferson hit a 3-point shot as the clock reached 3:38. An 11-3 run by EOU gave the Mountaineers a 55-37 lead at halftime.
The first three points of the second half were scored by Frohlich-Fair on a traditional 3-point play after just 11 seconds of action. EOU countered with a 6-0 run, ending with a field goal by Orchard, for a 61-40 margin with 16:51 to go. Torkornoo scored a basket with 13:19 left to complete an 11-6 run by the Mountaineers, as EOU took a 72-46 lead.Â
Evergreen will play at the College of Idaho on Saturday, Feb. 7. Tipoff in Caldwell, Idaho, is set for 5 p.m. MST / 4 p.m. PST.
