Workinger Wins CCC Championship in 160-Pound Weight Class

ASHLAND, Ore. – Shannon Workinger (Sr.) from The Evergreen State College women's wrestling team won the championship in the 160-pound weight class during the 2026 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women's Wrestling Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, on Sunday, March 1. Haley Le (So.) of Evergreen took third place in the 138-pound weight class for the Geoducks.

Workinger and Le earned All-Conference honors. The tournament was held at Riehm Arena in Ashland, Oregon. All eight CCC teams competed in the championship event. Evergreen claimed fourth place in the team standings.

In addition to winning the 160-pound weight class, Workinger qualified for the 2026 NAIA Women's Wrestling Championships, set for Friday, March 13, and Saturday, March 14 at Heartland Credit Union Arena in Wichita, Kansas. Le also received an automatic bid to the NAIA Championships with her third place finish.

Four Geoducks earned fourth place in their respective weight classes. Nizhoni Tallman (Sr.) was fourth at 110 pounds. Zeta Lee (So.) claimed fourth place at 117 pounds. Ellabelle Taylor (Jr.) grabbed fourth place at 124 pounds, and Ariana Cavero-Santiago (So.) was fourth at 180 pounds. Tallman and Taylor each have a chance to receive an at-large bid to the NAIA Championships but will have to wait for those bids to be awarded.

Workinger began the 160-pound bracket with a bye, then recorded back-to-back wins by falls in the quarterfinals and the semifinals, before winning with a shutout in the championship match. She pinned Hannah Hernandez of Eastern Oregon University just under a minute into the second period at 3:59 in the quarterfinals.

During the semifinals, Workinger pinned Berlyn Davis from Westcliff University (Calif.) at the 2:38 mark. In the championship match, Workinger shut out Aspen Dodge from the University of Providence (Mont.) 9-0. Entering the tournament, Workinger was ranked #4 and Dodge was ranked #5 in this year's final NAIA rankings at 160 pounds.

It is the second year in a row that Evergreen has won the CCC Championship in the 160-pound weight class. At the 2025 CCC Championship, Flor Parker Borrero won the 160-pound bracket for Evergreen's first-ever CCC women's wrestling title. Parker Borrero missed this year's championship due to an injury.

Le lost to Makayla Correa of Southern Oregon University, 13-6 in the semifinals and moved the consolation bracket. In the consolation semifinals, Le was victorious with a 10-0 technical fall versus Taylor Thompson of Simpson University. Le won the third place match with another technical fall, this time by an 11-0 score against Kaelyn Siason from Westcliff.

At 110 pounds, Tallman opened with a bye. In the quarterfinals she edged out Briseis Serrano of Southern Oregon 13-12. Paige Morales of Providence, ranked #3 in the NAIA at 110 pounds, defeated Tallman, ranked #17, on a 12-1 technical fall. Tallman defeated Telsarina Walter of EOU on criteria in the consolation semifinals after their match ended 1-1. In the third place match, Kayla McNatt from Arizona Christian University outscored Tallman 12-10.

Taylor started the bracket at 124 pounds on a 10-0 win by technical fall against Catalina Brown of Arizona Christian. In the semifinals, Kaylee Annis of SOU, ranked #13 in the NAIA, edged out Taylor, ranked #8, by a 5-4 score. Taylor recovered with a win by pinning Vanessa Alvarado from Westcliff in the consolation semifinals at 5:09. Myia Weiler of SOU defeated Taylor with a 10-0 technical fall in the third place match.

In the 117-pound weight class, Lee began the tournament by pinning Isabella Salgado-Aquilar of Simpson just 1:10 into their quarterfinal match. In the semifinals, Joely Slyter from Providence gained a win versus Lee with a 10-0 technical fall. Lee won with a fall in her consolation semifinal match against Mia Rivas of Arizona Christian. Isabella Coronado from Eastern Oregon won the third place match against Lee on a 21-10 technical fall.

Cavero-Santiago of Evergreen started the CCC Championships with a bye at 180 pounds in the quarterfinals. She lost in the semifinals to Kathryn Hingano of SOU with a fall at 1:07. In the consolation semifinals, Cavero-Santiago defeated Chloe Goddard of Simpson with a fall at 3:42. In the third place match, Genesis Rivera of Westcliff pinned Cavero Santiago at 3:42.

Providence won the CCC team championship with 194 points. Southern Oregon placed second at 174 and Eastern Oregon was third at 119. Evergreen finished in fourth place at 89.5 points. Westcliff followed in fifth place with 74.5 points, while Arizona Christian was sixth at 59, Simpson was seventh at 26.5, and Hope International University was eighth with no points.
