CORVALLIS, Ore. and TACOMA, Wash. -- Dani Buttrell (So.) and Claire Ryan (Jr.) led The Evergreen State College track and field teams during action at the Oregon State PNW Invite and the Brad Moore Invitational at Pacific Lutheran University. The Geoducks competed at the Oregon State PNW Invite on Friday, March 20 and participated in the Brad Moore Invitational on Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21.

Buttrell set a personal record in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at Oregon State as she registered a time of 11:54.26. She lowered her time by nearly 55 seconds from a week ago at the PLU Open. Buttrell moved into second on Evergreen's all-time list with her time at OSU.

Ryan broke her own school record in the women's hammer throw during the Brad Moore Invitational on Friday. Her new record toss covered 43.83 meters (143' 9"). Ryan placed fourth out of 15 athletes competing in the event. 

One week earlier, Ryan set the previous Evergreen record with a mark of 42.25 meters (138' 7"). Her result on Friday improved the record by 1.58 meters (5' 2").

Buttrell and Ryan both improved the Cascade Collegiate Conference qualifying marks they established last week at PLU. 

Also for Evergreen on Saturday at PLU, Jonathan Van Pelt (So.) set the school record and qualified for the CCC Championships with his top mark in the men's pole vault. He cleared 4.30 meters (14' 1.25") on his first attempt at that height. Van Pelt and Hunter Kleindl of Pacific Lutheran both  finished at 4.30 meters, but Van Pelt took fourth place overall on jumps and Kleindl received fifth place.

The Evergreen men's and women's track and field team will be back in action at the Peyton/Shotwell Invitational on Saturday, March 28 in Tacoma, Washington. The meet will be hosted by the University of Puget Sound.
