Carstens, Ryan, Trefts are Chosen Academic All-District

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Three members of The Evergreen State College women's cross country and women's track and field teams have been named Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). The student-athletes were chosen Academic All-District on the NAIA Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team for the 2025-26 academic year.
 
Honorees from Evergreen were Alauna Carstens (Jr.), Claire Ryan (Jr.), and Izabelle Trefts (Sr.). Carstens also was selected for the national ballot for Academic All-America. Carstens and Ryan were named Academic All-District for the second year in a row.
 
Carstens and Trefts competed as distance runners on the Evergreen cross country and track and field teams. Ryan participated in throwing events during the track and field season.

CSC Academic All-District honorees needed a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or higher and were required to be at least a sophomore academically and in terms of eligibility. In addition, qualifying student-athletes in NAIA track and field or cross country must have placed in the top 25 of a conference individual event during the academic year. Evergreen does not give letter grades, but academic accomplishments of the nominated student-athletes were converted to a 4.0 GPA scale.

It was a strong year for Carstens in 2025-26, as she earned All-America honors in cross country, the marathon, and indoor track and field. She redshirted during the outdoor track and field season.

Alauna Carstens runs for Evergreen at the 2025 CCC Cross Country Championships.During the cross country season, Carstens took fourth place at the 2025 NAIA Championships with a time of 21:02.1 over the 6-kilometer course. She also received All-American honors in cross country in 2023, when she took 15th place in the NAIA.
 
In addition, Carstens won the 2025 Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship. She registered a time of 20:49.6 in the women's 6-kilometer race to win by 45.2 seconds. It was her second top five finish in the CCC in cross country. She placed fourth at the 2023 CCC Championships.

She was named CCC McDonald's Runner of the Year. She also was chosen as the NAIA West Region Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year. She was named CCC Runner of the Week three times during cross country, earned USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week twice, and was selected NAIA National Runner of the Week three times.  She received the 2026 Evergreen Student Civic Leadership Award.

Carstens won the NAIA Marathon Classic for the second consecutive season on Dec. 14, 2025. She was timed at 2:53:50 (2 hours, 53 minutes, 50 seconds). Carstens also took first place in the Elite Women's division and was the overall women's champion at the BMW Dallas Marathon, which included the NAIA Marathon Classic.

At the 2026 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Carstens achieved second place in the 3,000-meter race walk. She completed the race in 9:51.95. Carstens previously took third place at the 2025 NAIA Indoor Championships.
 
After claiming All-American honors three times in 2025-26, Carstens has now earned All-American recognition a total of eight times. She has been named All-American, twice in cross country, twice in the marathon, twice in indoor track and field, and twice in outdoor track and field.

Carstens was named Academic All-CCC in cross country and track and field this season. She also was chosen as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete in cross country and track and field. In 2024-25, she was selected Academic All-CCC in cross country and track and field and was an NAIA Scholar-Athlete in track and field.
 
Claire Ryan of Evergreen Track and Field in 2025-26Ryan is from Kent, Washington, and attended Kentlake High School. She was the Valedictorian of her senior class. At Evergreen, her academic focus is Political Science. She competes in the hammer throw for the Geoducks.
 
Claire Ryan competes for Evergreen in the hammer throw.She qualified for the CCC Championships in the hammer throw this spring and took 15th place with a top distance of 40.64 meters (133' 2"). She previously qualified for the CCC Championships in 2025.

Ryan set the Evergreen record in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 43.83 meters (143' 9") at the Brad Moore Invitational, hosted by Pacific Lutheran University on March 20. She threw the hammer at least 40 meters at seven meets during the season.

During the indoor track season, Ryan set the Evergreen record in the weight throw. Her record-setting mark was 13.50 meters (44' 3.50") at the Corban Indoor/Outdoor Meet on Feb. 7.
 
In both 2025 and 2026, Ryan was named Academic All-Conference in track and field. She earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors both years.
 
Izabelle Trefts of Evergreen XC and Track and Field 2025Trefts graduated from Evergreen this year with an academic interest in Psychology. She is from Milford, Maine, where she graduated from Old Town High School.

At the 2026 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Trefts won the 3,000-meter race walk for the second consecutive season. She completed the race in 13:11.95 to set the national collegiate record, as well as the NAIA, CCC, and Evergreen records. She won three NAIA indoor race walk championships, including in 2023 before she transferred to Evergreen. She was named All-American for the third time in indoor track and for the fifth time overall.

Izabelle Trefts competes in a race walk.Trefts was ranked #1 in the nation in the indoor 3,000-meter race walk by USA Track and Field. She qualified to compete for Team USA at the outdoor 2026 World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships in Brazil. She placed 54th individually at the World Team Championships and earned the second fastest half marathon race walk time in American history. She also competed for Team USA at the Podebrady Walking Meet in Chechia. She helped the USA place third, while finishing 30th in the individual standings in the half marathon.

In the fall of 2025, Trefts ran for the Evergreen women's cross country team. She contributed to the Geoducks' team score at the CCC Cross Country Championships.

Trefts was chosen as Evergreen's Female Athlete of the Year for 20256-26. She was named CCC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week two times during the season. In addition, Trefts was the USTFCCCA National Indoor Track Athlete of the Week once and the NAIA Indoor Track Athlete of the Week once during the 2026 season.
 
During 2025-26, Trefts was named Academic All-CCC in cross country. She also was chosen as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

The Geoducks earned team scores from women's competition at the 2025 NAIA Marathon Classic, the 2026 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, and the 2026 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Evergreen took second place in the women's team standings at the NAIA Marathon Classic, then claimed 12th place at the NAIA indoor competition, before finishing in a tie for 39th place at the NAIA outdoor competition.
