PORTLAND, Ore. --
Claire Ryan (Jr.) and
Dani Buttrell (So.) led The Evergreen State College track and field teams at the L&C Larry Byerly Invitational on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18. Ryan took sixth place in the women's hammer throw, and Buttrell earned seventh place in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. The meet began with a few field events, including the hammer throw, at Linfield University in McMinnville, Oregon, on Friday, and concluded with the remaining field events and all of the track events at Eldon and David Fix Track on the Lewis & Clark College campus in Portland.
Ryan registered a top mark of 42.78 meters (140' 4") in the women's hammer throw. She placed sixth out of 29 athletes in the event. Ryan attained her top throw on the second attempt of the prelims. Also in the hammer throw,
Katie Gresham (So.) achieved a personal record toss of 36.62 meters (120' 1").
In the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Buttrell completed the race in 11:51.45. She was seventh out of 16 competitors in the race.Â
Merecedies Dupont (Fr.) set her Evergreen personal best with a time of 1:02.70 in the women's 400-meter dash.
For the Evergreen men's team,
Austin Major (Jr.) qualified for the 2026 Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.83. It set a personal record for Majors.
Jarvae Lindsay (Fr.) of Evergreen placed 16th in the long jump out of 41 athletes. His top effort went 6.43 meters (21' 1.25"), putting him close to his CCC qualifying mark of 6.49 meters (21' 3.50"), set at the Linfield Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational on April 4. In the triple jump at L&C, Lindsay improved his CCC qualifying mark to 12.87 meters (42' 2.75"), moving him into third place all-time at Evergreen.
On the track, three runners for the men's team set personal records.
Will Niskanen (So.) earned a personal best of 10:30.66 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Jackson Rye (Jr.) established a personal top time of 15:16.79 in the 5,000-meter run.
Evan Williams (Jr.) claimed a personal best result of 34:08.20 in the 10,000-meter run.
This season, Evergreen has qualified 14 athletes to compete at the CCC Championships with a total of 18 entries. The championship meet will be held May 8-9 at Banner Bank Track on the campus of Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Oregon.
Up next for the Geoducks is the Nancy & Norm Berney Classic at Corban University in Salem, Oregon, on Saturday, April 25. The meet will be held at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the Corban campus.
