McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Four athletes from The Evergreen State College earned top 11 finishes at the Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational in track and field on Saturday, April 4. The meet was hosted by Linfield University. Evergreen's top finishers were
Claire Ryan (Jr.) and
Dani Buttrell (So.) from the women's team, along with
DeAndre Wright (Fr.) and
Max Baeder (Jr.) from the men's team.
Ryan took third place in the women's hammer throw. She recorded a top mark of 41.92 meters (137' 6"). Ryan earned her top distance on her second throw.
"Claire has continued to set a high bar for herself, and her third place performance today is evidence of that," commented Evergreen Assistant Cross Country and Track and Field Coach
Katie Burnett.
Buttrell earned 11th place in the women's 1,500-meter run while finishing in under five minutes. She registered a time of 4:59.44 to set a personal record. Buttrell put together a strong overall weekend after setting a school record and taking fifth place in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Whitworth Peace Meet on Friday, April 3.
"Dani continues to impress, having great back-to-back performances this weekend with her school record yesterday and breaking five minutes in the 1500m today," said Evergreen Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach
Joel Pearson. "It's a great day to be a Geoduck!"

"There were so many performances to be proud of this weekend," Burnett added. " Just five weeks to conference!"
In the men's 100-meter dash, Wright placed fifth in 10.99 seconds. He was just .02 away from his season best. A total of 86 athletes compete in the men's 100. Steeley Mucken from Willamette University won the event with a time of 10.86 seconds.
"DeAndre's consistent placing has pushed Evergreen to be recognized not just in distance events, but in the sprints," Burnett noted. "His fifth place finish out of 86 runners in the 100m was no easy feat!"
Baeder placed ninth for the Geoducks in the men's 5,000-meter run. His time was 15:54.97.
Evergreen will compete at the Oregon Team Invitational at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene on Friday, April 17. The Geoducks will participate in the Lewis & Clark Larry Byerly Invitational on Saturday, April 18. The Larry Byerly Invitational will be held on the Lewis & Clark College campus in Portland, Oregon.
