Box Score OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Gabriela Paniagua (Jr., M) scored on a 6-yard header for The Evergreen State College with 2:34 left in the game as the Geoducks tied Simpson University (Calif.) 1-1 on Sunday, Sept. 13 at Geoduck Pitch. Evergreen moved to 0-1-1 overall. Simpson recorded its fourth tie of the season and ended the game at 2-1-4.

The game was scoreless at halftime after Evergreen starting goalkeeper Melina Grijalva (Jr.) earned seven saves. Five of Grijalva's seven saves were on shots by Maylania Mikaele. The Redhawks held a 10-5 advantage in total shots at the break. Evergreen's best change of the first half was at 15:58 when a shot by Izzy Widener (Jr., F) missed barely to the right.

Mikaele broke the scoreless tie when she scored at 72:35 in the second half. The goal was registered on a 25-yard shot from the middle of the field into the top center of the net.

The game-tying play for Evergreen began with a shot by Olivia DeVore (Fr., M). DeVore's shot hit the crossbar and bounced toward Paniagua, who headed the ball into the lower left corner of the net at 87:26. DeVore received an assist on the play.

Evergreen's Katie Gresham (Sr., GK), who was in goal throughout the second half, finished with four saves. Greshman made the final save of the game on a shot by Anahi Gomez with two seconds left.

For the game, Simpson gained a 16-9 margin in total shots, including a 12-2 edge in shots on goal. The game featured 13 corner kicks, with eight for the Redhawks and five for the Geoducks. Simpson goalie Jenna Sosa was credited with one save while playing all 90 minutes.

Mikaele led Simpson with seven total shots. Widener topped Evergreen with four total shots.

The Geoducks will open Cascade Collegiate Conference play on Friday, Sept. 18 at Geoduck Pitch against Oregon Tech. Game time is set for 12:30 p.m. PDT.
