Holmes Earns 11 Digs for Evergreen versus #11 Lewis-Clark State

LEWISTON, Idaho -- Paron Holmes (Jr., DS/L) contributed 11 digs and Sophia Scroggins (Sr., OH) earned seven kills for The Evergreen State College against NAIA #11-ranked Lewis-Clark State College on Friday, Sept. 18 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. LC State won the match 25-13, 25-19, 25-12.

The Warriors advanced their record to 11-1 overall, 4-1 in the CCC. Evergreen moved to 1-8 overall, 0-5 in the CCC. Four of the Geoducks' losses in the CCC have been to teams ranked in the NAIA Women's Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll.

Scroggins led the Geoducks with her seven kills and also provided Evergreen with six digs. Bright Brubaker (Jr., OPP) added six kills to go with two block solos and two block assists. Jayden Vaimaona (Sr., S) finished with six digs and five assists. Riley Mangan (Jr., S/DS) was credited with 12 assists for the Geoducks.

Taylor Boyce topped LC State with seven kills. Mikale Roy tacked on six kills, while Hadyn Smith and Michaela Romine each added five kills. Ella Stosich paced the Warriors with 10 digs and four service aces. Teagan Scott amassed 14 assists, while Kendal Focht supplied 12 assists. Karissa Lindner earned one block solo and four block assists.

LC State opened the first set with a 12-2 run. The last four points in the run were achieved on service aces by Stosich. Evergreen cut the margin to 18-9 on a service ace by Mangan but couldn't get closer as the Warriors won the set 25-13.

The second set began with an 8-3 run by Lewis-Clark State. Evergreen battled back to tie the score at 12-12 following a 9-4 run that included three kills by Scroggins. The Warriors tallied the next four points for a 16-12 lead. A kill by Brubaker and a block from Brubaker pulled the Geoducks within 16-14 before LC State added a 4-0 run. The Warriors took the set 25-19.

Lewis-Clark State owned a slim 6-4 margin in the third set after a kill by Brubaker that was assisted by Mangan. Two rallies later, the Geoducks were within 7-5 on a kill by Annalise Orlowski (FR., MB). The next six rallies went to the Warriors, including two service aces by Mackenzie Stout. Kills by Scroggins and Holmes reduced the margin to 13-7, but LC State countered with a 12-5 run to end the match.

Evergreen will take on Walla Walla University in Walla Walla, Washington, on Saturday, Sept. 19. Match time is slated for 9 p.m. PDT at Walla Walla Community College.
