Men’s Soccer Heads To Semifinals After Win

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Evergreen State College men's soccer team defeated No. 2 Rocky Mountain 2-0 on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament presented by U.S. Bank.

This was the second time the two teams faced each other this season but the results were different. The Battlin' Bears came out on top earlier is the season 1-0 but that wasn't the case today. RMC has won the last four matches against the Geoducks, including the opening round of the tournament in 2017 and 2018.

"The guys were great today," said head coach John Purtteman. "They took on different roles and performed with bravery and resolve. I could not be more proud of their effort."

Wylie Suda scored the first goal for No. 7 Evergreen at 50:56 with the assist from Maxton Hauser. After a long throw, Max flicked the ball to Wylie, who scored from six yards out with a header.

Gavin McLeroy scored the final goal of the match at 87:41 after he followed up the shot by Mitchell Balmer that was saved.

Tristan Glaser was back in the net for Evergreen and recorded three saves. The Geoducks recorded 10 shots for the match with seven on goal.

Rocky Mountain recorded 22 shots for the game with five on goal.

This is the first quarterfinal win for Evergreen since 2015, when the Geoducks defeated Carroll College 3-0 and the fell in the semifinal round to Rocky Mountain in a shootout.

Evergreen will face No. 1 Corban at 4 p.m. in the semifinals. The Geoducks fell 2-1 in double overtime to the Warriors earlier this season and Corban has won the last five matchups.
