PORTLAND, Ore. -
Ryan Quigley moved to within four points of 1,000 for his career and
Dalton Groenewold came within a rebound of tying the Evergreen men's basketball single-game record as the Geoducks took a 100-82 Cascade Collegiate Conference defeat to the host Multnomah Lions on Friday night.
Quigley, a senior forward, scored 22 points for the Geoducks (5-20 overall, 1-16 CCC) and has one game left to score the needed four points to become the fifth player in program history to tally at least 1,000 points in his career. Quigley gets that opportunity tomorrow night when Evergreen closes out its season at Warner Pacific. He is already the career record holder for offensive rebounds with 175, including three in this game.
Groenewold had a monster game for Evergreen with 19 points and 20 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end. The senior forward's 20 rebounds ranks him second on the Evergreen men's basketball single-game list, trailing only Danny Powell, who accumulated 21 rebounds against College of Idaho Dec. 30, 2015. With Groenewold leading the way, the Geoducks manhandled the Lions on the boards, 58-39.
Malik Redmond, yet another senior forward, scored 24 points on 12-for-21 shooting for the Geoducks.
Justin Martin, the number two scorer in NAIA Division II men's basketball with an average of 31.39 points per game, scored 36 to lead the Lions, who also got 22 from Ben Grandle and 16 points and 10 rebounds from Brett Blackstock. The Lions finished 19-for-55 from three-point range, including 7-for-12 by Martin.
The game was close at the half as the Geoducks trailed 44-41, but the Lions picked up the tempo in the final 20 minutes to pull away for the victory.
