OLYMPIA, Wash. – To end a five-match homestand, The Evergreen State College volleyball team ended it with a dominating 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-16) win over Walla Walla on Saturday in the Costantino Recreation Center.
Evergreen was led by
Zoe Shaw, who had a double-double with 16 kills and 10 digs. She hit a .314 for the night.
Lily Stewart added seven kills and
Sierra Wolff had 35 assists and nine digs.
Sage Burgmeier led in the back row with 11 digs.
Walla Walla was led by Jocelyn Curier, who had seven kills and Meherio Krainer added 12 assists and nine digs. The Wolves only had seven players for the night.
The Geoducks hit a .291 for the match to Walla Walla .011. Evergreen recorded nine serving aces, including three by Wolff and recorded six blocks.
Walla Walla recorded 16 errors for the match with nine reception errors and two serving errors.
"The team was able to bounce back today, which was great to see," said head coach
Alexis Garrison. "Walla Walla is resilient and scrappy team. It is always fun to play them!"
It was all about the runs in this match and Evergreen had a couple of beauties. In the first set, Evergreen went on an 8-0 run and went on another 9-0 run and ended the set on a 3-0 run. The set was closer in the second set, and down by two points at 17-19, Evergreen went on a 4-0 run to take the lead and ended the set on a 4-1 run. In the final set, Evergreen opened the set on a 7-0 run but Walla Walla was able to go on a 6-0 run to come within one. With the set tied 8-8, Evergreen went on a 4-2 run and then with a score of 18-15, the Geoducks ended the set on a 6-1 run for the win.
Today's match ended a five-match homestand for the Geoducks, who will now hit the road to see Corban at 7 p.m. on Friday and face Bushnell at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Corban is ranked fifth in the latest NAIA Coaches Poll.
