Five Set Victory Over Seventh-Ranked Corban

SALEM, Ore. – The Evergreen State College volleyball team gave seventh-ranked Corban its second loss for the season as the Geoducks defeated the Warriors 3-2 (29-27, 19-25, 25-19, 17-25, 15-10) Friday night at the C.E. Jeffers Sports.

Evergreen was led by Lily Stewart, who had 24 kills and Zoe Shaw added a double-double with 21 kills and 13 digs. Sierra Wolff record 51 assists for the match and Sage Burgmeier led in the back row with 24 digs.

"This team has been resilient throughout the season, and it paid off tonight," said head coach Alexis Garrison. "They came to play in a positive, resilient, and determined way. I am very proud of this family."

Corban, who is ranked seventh in the NAIA Coaches Poll, was led by Avari Ridgway, who had 24 kills and 10 digs, Rylee Troutman recorded 18 kills and 11 digs and Allyson Reid had 11 kills. Jadyn Mullen recorded 32 assists and Ciarra Judson had 26 assists.

The Geoducks hit a .256 for the match and hit over 300 in the first, third and fifth set. Corban recorded 29 attack errors for the match and nine serving errors. Evergreen had five serving aces for the match and recorded 30 team blocks, including 10 by Hannah Rongen.

The first set went to extra points and Evergreen was able to come out on top. With the score tied at 27, Evergreen took the win after a couple of attack errors by the Warriors.

Corban would win the second set, but Evergreen came back to win the third set. The Warriors took the fourth set and in the fifth and final set, Evergreen opened the set on a 4-0 run after an attack error by the Warriors and kills by Shaw, Stewart and Jalyn Sackrider. After trading points back and forth, Corban went on a 3-0 run but Evergreen quickly called a timeout and scored the next two points off a kill by Hannah Rongen and attack error from Corban. The Warriors scored the next point, but Evergreen took the fifth set win after an attack error by Corban.

The Geoducks are back in action to close out the road portion of the regular season on Saturday at 5 p.m. as the Geoducks face 23rd-ranked Bushnell. The Beacon fell to Northwest 3-2 Friday night.
