Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

First Win On The Season, 3-2 Victory Over Bushnell

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Evergreen State College women's soccer team picked up its first win on the season defeated Bushnell 3-2 Friday afternoon at the Les Schwab Sports Park.

Evergreen was the first to get on the scoreboard by Celia Scruton. After a foul on Bushnell, Scruton took the free kick on the right side of the goal, just outside the box. She hit the left side of the goal at four minutes for her first goal on the season.

Madison Spenker scored her third goal for the season at 13:47, after Sunny Bieber passed the ball up to Spenker, who dribbled the ball down the field and hit the left side of the net.

Bushnell got on the scoreboard at 37:08 by Sydney Bushnell and Evergreen had the 2-1 lead going into the half.

In the second half, the Beacon tied the game up at 53:40 with the goal by Karla Cardinal.

The winning goal for Evergreen was scored at 57:31 by Brieanna Dell and assisted from Cayla Muenchow. With the goalie out of the box, Muenchow passed the ball to Dell, who scored on an open net. That was Dell's first goal on the season.

The Geoducks recorded 16 shots for the match with 10 on goal. Bushnell had 19 shots with seven on goal.

Lucky Backus was back in the net for Evergreen and picked up the win. She had five saves for the match. Anabel Mendez was in the net for Bushnell and had seven saves.

This is the fourth win for Evergreen against Bushnell since 2013. The Geoducks won in 2019 the last time these two teams have met and lost the previous four before that.

Evergreen is back in action on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. to face Corban in Salem at the CRC Soccer Complex. The Warriors defeated Northwest 2-1 on Friday.
