SALEM, Ore. –
Brieanna Dell scored the lone goal as The Evergreen State College women's soccer team fell to Corban 4-1 Saturday evening at the CRC Soccer Complex.
Corban got on the board with two goals in the first half. The first by Juliana Pires at 37:16 and the second goal at 37:52 from a penalty kick by Jamine Biava.
With the 2-0 lead going into the half, Evergreen was able to get on the board and start a comeback.
Celia Scruton crossed the ball over to Dell, who had the goal at 64:48. That was her second goal for the season.
That comeback was cut short as Corban scored two quick goals, the first at 79:15 by Chanel Garcia and again at 80:38 by Maria-Frances Serran at 80:38 for the win.
Evergreen recorded three shots for the match with one on goal. Dell had that shot on goal, while Dell,
Sunny Bieber and
Madison Spenker both had shots for the match.
Lucky Backus was back in the net for the Geoducks and recorded five saves, her defense helped her by creating four offsides for Corban. Makida Herbert picked up the win for the Warriors and didn't have any saves.
"Unfortunately, we had one tough minute in each half that hurt us," said head coach
Steve Schmidt. "The group showed a ton of heart and resilience to fight back to make it 2-1 in the second half. I'm extremely proud of this team's commitment to improving and we are looking forward to preparing for our matches this next weekend."
Corban recorded 26 shots for the match with nine on goal. Since 2013, Corban has won the last seven matchups not including tonight's match.
Evergreen will be back in action at home on Friday against Multnomah and will face Warner Pacific on Saturday. Both matches will start at 3:00 p.m. on the Geoduck Pitch following the men's match.
