OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A goal by Rocky Mountain College in the first half led to a 1-0 win for the Battlin' Bears over The Evergreen State College in a Cascade Collegiate Conference women's soccer game on Friday, Oct. 18 at Geoduck Pitch. Evergreen's defense battled throughout the match, but the lone goal held up for Rocky Mountain.
Rocky improved to 6-3-1 on the season, including 4-2-1 in the CCC. Evergreen fell to 1-7-3 overall, 1-5-2 in the CCC.
The goal was scored by Emma Lansing of RMC at 33:04. She scored on a tap-in from two yards out following a pass from the right side. Mya Maack earned an assist on the play.
During the game, Rocky gained a 14-2 edge in total shots and a 6-0 margin in shots on goal. The Geoducks limited Rocky to few quality shots, and Evergreen goalkeeper
Anna Varela (Jr.) was credited with five saves. Varela left the game due to an injury late in the game.
Amity Brookshire (Jr.) played the final 3:54 for Evergreen and did not make a save. Each team achieved five corner kicks.
Hanna Trumbull, goalkeeper for the Battlin' Bears, recorded the shutout without making a save. She played in goal in all 10 games for RMC this season.Â
Evergreen will play at home again on Sunday, Oct. 20 against Walla Walla University in a non-conference game. Walla Walla has added women's soccer this season but is not yet competing in the CCC. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. PDT.
