GREAT FALLS, MONT. --
Peyton Rhyne (Sr., D) scored the game's only goal less than one minute into the second half to send The Evergreen State College to a 1-0 victory over the University of Providence in a Cascade College Conference women's soccer game on Friday, Oct. 25. It was Rhyne's team-leading seventh goal of the season.
The goal was set up by a pass from the right side by
Alexandra Foley (Sr., D). Rhyne controlled the pass and spun around a defender before shooting into the left side netting at 45:54.
Evergreen advanced its record to 3-7-3 overall, 2-5-2 in the CCC. The Geoducks are 3-1-1 in the last five games. Providence fell to 5-9-1 on the season, 2-8-0 in the CCC.
The Argos held a 10-6 edge in total shots, including 7-2 in the first half. Evergreen outshot Providence 4-3 in the second half. The Argos finished with a slim 3-2 margin in shots on target.
Anna Varela (Jr., GK) of Evergreen registered three saves in goal. She provided two of the saves in the second half, stopping shots by Jordan Fagert at 64:42 and 70:28. The best scoring chance for Providence may have been in the first half, when a shot by Andriah Watson hit the crossbar.
Rhyne of Evergreen and Fagert of the Argos each concluded the game with three shots, including two shots on goal. The Geoducks received one shot each from
Iris Campesino (Sr., M),
Danean Wurlitzer (Sr., M), and
Angela Celedon (Fr., M). Providence goalie Chloe Pajaro earned one save.
The Geoducks will play at Carroll College in Helena, Montana, on Saturday, Oct. 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. MDT / 1 p.m. PDT.
