HELENA, Mont. -- Goalkeepers
Anna Varela (Jr.) and
Amity Brookshire (Jr.) each recorded five saves for the Geoducks on Saturday, Oct. 26, but Carroll College won the Cascade Collegiate Conference women's soccer game 3-0. All three goals were scored in the first half. Delaney Moczan led Carroll with a goal and an assist.
The Fighting Saints improved to 9-4-4 overall and to 6-3-2 in the CCC. The Evergreen State College dropped to 3-8-3 on the season, 2-6-2 in the CCC.
Carroll took command midway through the first half with goals separated by about five minutes. Moczan scored first at 23:45 on an unassisted shot. She earned her assist at 28:57 by setting up a goal by Deanna Lord. The Saints extended their lead to 3-0 on a goal by Ella Kuenzli shortly before halftime.
Both teams kept the attacking players from scoring in the second half. Brookshire entered the goal at the start of the second half and finished with 45 shutout minutes. Carroll played two goalies, with Maria Ackerman playing the first 48:45 and Katie Gilb playing the final 41:15. Ackermann earned one save and Gilb did not make a save.
The Saints achieved a 26-3 advantage in total shots and a 13-1 edge in shots on goal. Carroll registered an 8-2 lead on corner kicks but held a slim 2-1 margin in the second half.
Emily Funseth of Carroll led all players with six total shots. She placed three shots on goal. For Evergreen,
Peyton Rhyne (Sr., D) placed a shot on goal, while
Chloe Bafus (Jr., F) and
Danean Wurlitzer (Sr., M) each took one shot.
Evergreen will play against Oregon Tech on Friday, Nov. 1. Game time at Geoduck Pitch in Olympia, Washington, is set for 12:30 p.m. PDT.
