OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The Evergreen State College volleyball team lost to Eastern Oregon University, ranked #4 in the NAIA, by a 3-0 score on Friday, Oct. 25 at the Costantino Recreation Center. The Mountaineers upped their record to 22-2 on the season and to 14-2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Eastern Oregon won 25-7, 25-15, 25-20.
Ashley Walker Campbell (Jr., OPP),
Lucendy Perez (Sr., OH), and
Sophia Scroggins (So., OPP/MB) each contributed five kills for the Geoducks. Perez led the team with 11 digs, while
Molly Packer (JR., L) finished with nine digs.
Maloree Calzadillas (Sr., S) provided 11 assists.
The Mountaineers produced a balanced attack with eight players accumulating five or more kills. McKenzie Jonas led the way with nine kills. Four Mountaineers each added six kills, including Madison Morgan, who had no attacking errors and registered a .750 hitting percentage. Hailey Arritola supplied 13 digs, and Olivia Wegner was credited with 12 digs. Alexis McMurtrey provided 23 assists, while Hannah Ledgerwood tacked on 18.
Eastern Oregon surged out to a 12-3 lead in the first set on its way to a 25-7 win. Jonas earned four kills during the set.
In the second set, Evergreen grabbed a 4-2 lead and was in front 5-3 following a kill by
Zofia Formella (Fr., MB). Eastern Oregon tallied the next six points, including two kills by Mylie Mills, to take a 9-5 advantage. The Mountaineers maintained the lead, but Evergreen was within 16-11 following back-to-back kills from
Kaiyah Brown (Sr., MB) and Formella. EOU won the set 25-15.
Evergreen trailed 8-3 in the third set following a service ace by Ledgerwood. The Geoducks were as close as 13-10 a bit later when Brown provided TESC with a service ace. Five rallied later, a service ace by
Jessica Mitchell (Jr., S) cut Evergreen's deficit to 15-13.
The Geoducks kept battling and trailed 23-20 after a combination block by Formella and
Yasmin Dilworth (Sr., OH). One kill each by Jonas and Emma Burlingame for Eastern Oregon ended the match.
Evergreen dropped to 4-17 overall, 4-13 in the CCC. The Geoducks will host College of Idaho at the Costantino Recreation Center on Saturday, Oct. 26. Match time is at 4 p.m. PDT.
