OLYMPIA, Wash. --
Ashley Walker Campbell (Jr., OPP) earned nine kills for The Evergreen State College, but the visiting College of Idaho Yotes defeated the Geoducks 3-0 in volleyball on Saturday, Oct. 267 at the Costantino Recreation Center. The 25-13, 25-15, 25-19 win elevated C of I to 14-11 on the season, 10-7 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Evergreen moved to 4-17 overall and 4-13 in the CCC.
Walker's nine kills were recorded with just two attacking errors and a .318 hitting percentage.
Molly Packer (Jr., L) supplied the Geoducks with 20 digs and now has 413 digs (5.16 avg. per set) this season.
Also for Evergreen,
Lucendy Perez (Sr., OH) contributed six kills, while
Maloree Calzadillas (Sr., S) provided 14 assists.
Zofia Formella (Fr., M) was credited with three total blocks.
Shelby Nichol, Abby Draghici, and Haley McUne each finished with eight kills for the Yotes. Draghici hit .500 and Nichol hit .375. Savannah Hutchins accumulated 20 assists and Capri Salmon added 14 assists. McUne led College of Idaho with 12 digs, while Draghici and Alexa Wheeler topped the Yotes with three block assists.
Evergreen took a 3-1 lead in the first set on kills by Perez,
Kaiyah Brown (Sr., MB, and Walker Campbell. The Yotes tallied the next three points to move in front. The teams were tied at 5-5 before the Yotes went on a 5-1 surge for a 10-6 lead following a kill by Draghici. Eight rallies later, Evergreen trailed 14-10 but couldn't get closer as C of I won the set 25-13.
The Yotes fell behind 3-1 once again in the second set. This time Evergreen's early advantage was attained with two kills by Walker Campbell and one kill by Calzadillas.
College of Idaho rallied to grab leads of 8-7 and 11-8. A kill by Walker Campbell pulled the Geoducks within 11-9, but C of I countered with a 6-1 run. The Geoducks reduced the margin to 17-13 on a 3-0 run ending with a combo block by Formella and
Yasmin Dilworth (Sr., OH). The next three points went to the Yotes, starting with a kill by Draghici. C of I claimed the set 25-15.
Evergreen kept the lead for much of the third set, including another 3-1 advantage. Later, a 5-1 run ended with a service ace by Perez and a kill from Brown for a 13-10 margin. The Geoducks also held leads of 16-13Â after a service ace by
Joy Miyazawa (Fr., S/DS), and 19-16 on a kill by
Sophia Scroggins (So., OPP/MB). College of Idaho responded with a 9-0 run to win the match.
The Geoducks will play at Corban University on Friday, Nov. 1. Match time in Salem, Oregon, is set for 7 p.m. PDT.
