Walker Campbell Leads Geoducks with 12 Kills against Corban

SALEM, Ore. -- Ashley Walker Campbell  (Jr., OPP) led The Evergreen State College attack with 12 kills against Corban University on Friday, Nov. 1 at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center, but the Geoducks fell to the Warriors, 3-1. Corban, ranked #8 in the NAIA Women's Volleyball Top 25 Poll, lost the first set before winning the match, 23-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-17.

Corban advanced its record to 20-4 overall, including 16-3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Evergreen dropped to 4-19 on the season, 4-15 in the CCC.

Following Walker Campbell on Evergreen's kill chart were Lucendy Perez (Sr., OH) and Yasmin Dilworth (Sr., OH). Perez finished with seven kills, while Dilworth added six kills. Molly Packer (Jr., L) continued her strong defensive play by earning 22 digs. Packer has 435 digs on the season and is averaging 5.18 digs per set. 

Also for the Geoducks on Friday, Jessica Mitchell (Jr., S) contributed 16 assists and 11 digs, while Maloree Calzadillas (Sr., S) tacked on seven assists and 10 digs. Evergreen amassed 9.0 team total blocks, including four block assists each from Zofia Formella (Fr., MB) and Kaiyah Brown (Sr., MB). Walker Campbell and Sophia Scroggins (So., OPP/MB) both achieved three block assists.

Emma Bischoff provided Corban with a match-high 15 kills, plus eight digs, and three total blocks. Jadah Schmidtke was credited with 12 kills and seven digs. Marissa Uehara topped the Warriors with 16 digs, while Abby Guindy registered 25 assists. 

The Geoducks took a 10-6 lead in the first set on a kill by Calzadillas. Corban battled back within a single point at 11-10 and again at 14-13 on a kill by Bischoff. The teams split the next two points before Evergreen won three consecutive rallies for an 18-14 lead.

A bit later, the Geoducks held a 20-16 advantage following a serving error by Corban. The Warriors eventually pulled within 23-22 and 24-23 before a kill by Walker Campbell ended the set, giving Evergreen a 1-0 lead in the match.

Corban evened the match with a 25-15 win in the second set. The Warriors owned a slim 5-4 lead after nine rallies but went on a 9-2 run to increase the margin to 14-6. Bischoff supplied Corban with two kills, a block solo, and a block assist during the run. 

The third set included Evergreen taking a 3-1 lead on a kill by Walker Campbell. Later, Corban broke a 5-5 tie with a 3-0 run. Evergreen cut the lead to 8-7 before the Warriors tacked on a 4-0 surge for a five-point lead. The Geoducks moved as close as 12-10 on a combo block from Formella and Perez. Corban took a 16-10 lead four points later on a service ace by Madison Hernandez, and went on to win the set, 25-14.

In the fourth set, the Warriors put together a 5-0 run to expand an 8-6 lead into a 13-6 advantage. Evergreen chased Corban during the rest of the set and couldn't overcome the deficit in a 25-17 loss.

The Geoducks will play at Bushnell University in Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday, Nov. 2. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m. PDT.
