OLYMPIA, Wash. --
Lucendy Perez (Sr., OH) earned 10 kills and registered five service aces for The Evergreen State College in a 3-1 loss to Bushnell University on Friday, Oct. 4 at the Costantino Recreation Center. The Geoducks led 1-0 after the first set, but the Beacons rallied for the overall victory. Bushnell won 25-27, 25-16, 25-20, 25-19.
The Beacons upped their record to 12-6, including 7-3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Geoducks moved to 3-11 overall, 3-7 in the CCC.
Perez added to her kills and aces by providing the Geoducks with seven digs and two block assists.Â
Marin Collins (Jr., MB) tacked on seven kills, while
Sophia Scroggins (So., OPP/MB) and
Yasmin Dilworth (Sr., OH) each supplied five kills.
Molly Packer recorded 15 digs, while
Maloree Calzadillas (Sr., S) was credited with 14 assists.
Jayden Vaimaona (So., S) earned 11 assists and 10 digs.
Collins contributed seven total blocks, while
Kaiyah Brown (Sr., MB) of Evergreen added five block assists. The Geoducks accumulated 12.0 team total blocks compared to 9.0 blocks for Bushnell.
Hailey Heider of Bushnell led all players with 25 kills. Leah Agost and Matty Ladd each produced 11 kills for the Beacons. Katie Belitz and Elijah Sanders both totaled 31 assists. Bella Parque was credited with 16 digs.Â
The first set started with a 7-2 surge by the Beacons. Evergreen recovered with the next four points to start an 11-6 run for a 13-13 tie following an attacking error by the Beacons. TheÂ
Geoducks took their first lead at 15-14 and eventually held a 21-17 advantage. Bushell tied the score at 22-22 before a kill by Collins and a service ace by Perez gave the Geoducks a 24-22 advantage. The game was tied two more time, but a kill by Scroggins and an ace by Vaimaona provided Evergreen with a 27-25 win.
A 6-2 lead after eight rallies in the second set helped Bushnell on its way to an 11-5 lead in the second set. The Geoducks scored the next two points on kills by Perez and Collins, but the Beacons moved out to a 17-8 margin. Bushnell won the set 25-16.
Bushnell put together another quick start in the third set, grabbing a 7-3 lead following a kill by Amyah Semau. Evergreen moved within 10-9 on a combo block by Collins and
Bright Brubaker (Fr. OPP). The score remained close until the Beacons used a 6-0 run to take a 22-16 advantage. Agost registered two kills during the run. Bushnell gained a 25-20 victory in the set.
Evergreen claimed a 3-1 lead at the start of the fourth set, including two service aces by Perez. The Beacons tied the score at 4-4 and held a 6-5 lead, but the Geoducks eventually gained a 12-10 lead on a kill from Perez. A bit later, Evergreen was in front 17-14. The Beacons countered with an 8-1 run, including two kills by Agost, for a 22-18 margin. Bushnell won the set 25-19.
The Geoducks will host Corban University on Saturday, Oct. 5. Match time at the CRC is set for 4 p.m. PDT.
