CALDWELL, Idaho --
Marin Collins (So., MB) earned four kills, four total blocks, and a .250 hitting percentage for The Evergreen State College volleyball team against College of Idaho on Friday, Sept. 13, but the Yotes downed the Geoducks, 3-0. Evergreen kept increasing its score as the match progressed but couldn't overtake the Yotes. College of Idaho won 25-14, 25-17, 25-21.
Top hitters for the Geoducks were
Ashley Walker Campbell (Jr., OPP) and
Lucendy Perez (Sr., OH), each with five kills.
Molly Packer (Jr., L) provided Evergreen with 11 digs.
Jayden Vaimaona (So., S) was credited with nine assists and
Jessica Mitchell (Jr., S) achieved eight assists. Evergreen held a 7.0 to 5.0 lead in team total blocks.
College of Idaho was led by Jessica Stires with 11 kills. Jenae Rayborn tacked on eight kills for the Yotes. Althea Sandoval supplied the home team with 10 digs, while Capri Salmon had 20 assists and Savannah Hitchins achieved 17 assists. The Yotes finished with 44 kills.
In the opening set, the Yotes took a 5-1 lead. Evergreen moved within 8-5 on a kill by Walker Campbell, but College of Idaho responded with five consecutive points. Evergreen fell in the set, 25-14.
Evergreen held a 3-2 edge five rallies into the second set on a kill by Perez. The next four points went to the Yotes, who eventually built a 12-5 advantage on their way to a 25-17 win.
The third set began with a strong 4-1 start by Evergreen. Later, the Geoducks let 10-7 on a combo block Walker Campbell and
Kaiyah Brown (Sr., MB) and 14-11 after a block by Collins and
Sophia Scroggins (So., OPP/MB).
College of Idaho and the Geoducks exchanged the lead five times during the rest of the set. Evergreen was in front 19-18 after an attacking error by the Yotes, but College of Idaho won the next four rallies to open a 7-2 run and take the set, 25-21. The Yotes improved to 6-5 overall, 2-1 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Geoducks ended the match at 0-7 overall, 0-3 in the CCC.
Evergreen will take on Eastern Oregon University on Saturday, Sept. 14. Game time in La Grande, Oregon, is set for 4 p.m. PST.
