LA GRANDE, Ore. -- Junior opposite
Ashley Walker Campbell registered eight kills and hit .389 for The Evergreen State College against #2-ranked Eastern Oregon University on Saturday, Sept. 14, but the Moutaineers defeated the Geoducks 3-0. EOU won the match 25-12, 25-18, 25-19.
The Cascade Collegiate Conference win improved Eastern Oregon to 11-1 on the season and 3-1 in the CCC. Evergreen dropped to 0-8 overall, 0-4 in the CCC.
Walker Campbell was followed on the kill chart by
Sophia Scroggins (So., OPP/MB), who earned seven kills for the Geoducks.Â
Lucendy Perez (Sr., OH) made 12 digs, while
Molly Packer (Jr., L) added 11 digs.
Jessica Mitchell (Jr., S) andÂ
Jayden Vaimaona (So., S) each provided 11 assists.Â
Kaiyah Brown (Sr., MB) topped Evergreen with four total blocks, while Walker Campbell tacked on three blocks.
Keira Vaughn and Kiauna Mack paced the Mountaineers on offense by matching Walker Campbell with eight kills. Mack hit .375 for EOU. Brooke Womack accumulated 11 digs. Alexis McMurtrey was credited with 18 assists and Hannah Ledgerwood finished with 17 assists. Eastern Oregon amassed 10 team total blocks. Mack recorded a team-high six blocks.
The Mountaineers broke a 2-2 tie in the first set by going on a 7-1 run for a 9-3 lead. Evergreen pulled within 9-6 three rallies later after back-to-back service aces by
Joy Miyazawa (Fr., S/DS). EOU tallied four consecutive points for a 13-6 advantage and went on to win the set 25-12.
Evergreen surged out to a 9-5 lead in the second set, led by two kills from Walker Campbell. Three other Geoducks each supplied one kill during the run. Eastern Oregon rallied to tie the score at 12-12 and grabbed a 13-12 edge with a service ace from Emma Burlingame. A bit later, Evergreen used a 3-0 run to take a 16-14 advantage following a kill by
Yasmin Dilworth (Sr., OH).
EOU countered with an 8-1 outburst to claim a 22-17 lead on a kill by McKenzie Jonas. The Geoducks scored next on a solo block by Brown, but the Mountaineers ended the set with a 3-0 run.
In the third set, Evergreen trailed 7-4 and then battled back to tie the score at 10-10. Evergreen tied the score two more times at 14-14 and 15-15, before Eastern Oregon took a 17-15 lead. The Geoducks moved within 17-16 on a kill by Walker Campbell. EOU responded with a 4-1 run for a 21-17 margin on its way to taking the set 25-19.
Up next for the Geoducks is a CCC match against Northwest University on Tuesday, Sept. 17 in Kirkland, Washington. Match time is slated for 6 p.m. PDT.
