KIRKLAND, Wash. --
Kaiyah Brown (Sr., MB) supplied nine blocks,
Molly Packer (Sr., OH) earned 36 digs, and
Sophia Scroggins (So., OPP/MB) added 11 kills, including the winning point, as The Evergreen State College outlasted Northwest University, 3-2, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The Geoducks won the match, 25-23, 25-27, 25-22, 16-25, 15-13.
Evergreen led for most of the fifth set but trailed 11-10 following an attacking error. The Geoducks scored the next two points on attacking mistakes by the Eagles. Northwest tied the score at 12-12.Â
The Geoducks moved in front for the final time on a combination block by
Yasmin Dilworth (Sr., OH) and
Marin Collins (Jr., MB) and increased their lead to 14-12 on a solo block by Collins. The Eagles pulled within 14-13 on a kill by Reece Denny. Scroggins answered with a kill from the right side to give Evergreen a 15-13 win to end the overall match.

Carissa Bounds said. "Each conference match we've really learned from our mistakes and we're getting 1% better every time we get in the gym. Our defense and serve receive really gave us more opportunities to put the ball away."
Evergreen moved to 1-8 on the season and to 1-4 in the CCC. Northwest fell to 5-8 overall, 0-5 in the CCC.
Scroggins' 11 kills led the Geoducks' attack, while
Ashley Walker Campbell (Jr. OPP) registered nine kills.
Maloree Calzadillas (Sr., S) was credited with 15 assists and
Jayden Vaimaona (So., S) tacked on 13 assists.
On defense, the nine blocks by Brown and the season-high 36 digs from Packer topped Evergreen. The Geoducks amassed 15.0 team total blocks compared to 4.0 total blocks for the Eagles. Collins ended the match with six blocks for Evergreen.Â
Lucendy Perez (Sr., OH) added 15 digs.
Aubree Dees and Delaney Sparks each contributed 12 kills for Northwest. Morgan Harter accumulated a match-high 25 assists and Allie Flynn added 19 assists. Ellie Van Berkum made 28 digs.
The Geoducks rallied from an 8-1 deficit to win the first set. Evergreen pulled within 15-13 on a kill by Calzadillas and moves as close as one point at 18-7. The Geoducks eventually tied the score at 23-23 on a kill by Perez. Walker Campbell added a kill and combined with Collins on a block to finish the set for a 25-23 victory.
Another close set followed, as the Eagles evened the match with a 27-25 win. The Eagles led 18-14, but Evergreen tied the score at 24-24 on a block by Collins and Brown. Walker Campbell provided a kill to tie the set two points later, but a kill by Kalli Budge and an attacking error by Evergreen ended the set.
Evergreen closed out the third set with a 10-7 surge that erased a 15-10 deficit. Late in the rally, a kill by Brown gave the Geoducks a 24-22 lead. An attacking error by the Eagles ended the set.
Northwest built a 10-4 lead in the fourth set to claim a 25-16 win, sending the teams into a fifth set.
For the match, the Eagles held a 59-36 advantage in kills, but Northwest committed 43 attacking errors compared to 23 errors by the Geoducks.
The Geoducks will host Multnomah on Friday, Sept. 20. Match time at the Costantino Recreation Center is set for 6 p.m. PST.
